Milwaukee Brewers RP John Axford
Matter of time

Mound meetings

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is going with a closer committee following Francisco Rodriguez's Wednesday blowup. Though Kameron Loe and Jose Veras might get in on the action in the short term, it seems like only a matter of time before John Axford reclaims his job. Loe and Veras aren't worth anything more than a desperation flier in deep mixed leagues.

Livan Hernandez, whom Roenicke mentioned as an option, shouldn't be given credence unless he's a $0 or $1 bid in an NL-only and no one else is available. Even then, it's a stretch.

Francisco Cordero would not have been used in a save chance because of his 57-pitch workload over his previous two outings. Wilton Lopez didn't get a chance to prove his worth, however, to the Houston Astros. Though a chance might not happen immediately, you shouldn't wait for Bradley Mills to make the switch to Lopez, the best bet.

Frank Francisco (oblique) is ready to head out on a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton; the New York Mets are hoping it only lasts two games. His return would end the interim tenure of Bobby Parnell, who etched a closure on Thursday despite two walks by fanning three in a scoreless inning.

The Metropolitans may also seek help via a swap before Tuesday. They turned down a deal to send Daniel Murphy to the San Diego Padres for Luke Gregerson. Would they pull the trigger for a proven stopper?

A reminder to check out our Closer Depth Charts as you prepare to pilfer saves off your waiver wire this weekend in advance of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline.
