San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said the team will ask QB Philip Rivers to play a huge role in reducing the learning curve for the rest of the bodies on offense this year. 'We're going to throw as much of the offense as Philip can handle,' McCoy said. 'When he tells us to slow down, we'll slow down.' Rivers said the practices with new head coach McCoy have been designed for more intermediate passes than in recent years.

San Diego Chargers LB Takeo Spikes said he believes the team should look to improve the offensive line this offseason because it had trouble protecting QB Philip Rivers this season. 'The offensive line needs to be addressed,' Spikes said. 'I see horrible things written and said about Philip Rivers - I believe Philip is a great quarterback in this league. Regardless what your intangibles are you can't throw the ball if you're on your back or looking at your side.'
San Diego Chargers quarterback's coach Frank Reich is happy with his new position with the Chargers. Reich feels like it is a great situation to be working with QB Phillip Rivers. "(I was intrigued) to come to a place where there's a quarterback like Philip Rivers," he continued. "Philip's reputation is that he's a competitor. I think that's what everybody respects most about him. When you think of Philip, you think of a guy who is a competitor and led one of the more prolific offenses for a good stretch. He at one point led the best offense in the league, and that's not easy to do because there are a lot of good players in this league. During that stretch, he was at the top of the game. He was a legitimate MVP candidate, so I'm excited to work with a guy who is a good competitor and a great player. That combination - that's a good combination."

'Of the potential candidates, I can honestly say this is the guy I was hoping for. I feel great about it,' Rivers said. 'We have direction now. We'll all go again.
