SUMMARY
Tight End Rank: #8
Overall: #86

Most considered 2006 a disappointing season for Cooley, but his numbers in the end weren't too bad. His receptions were down (57) but he finished with 734-receiving yards and six touchdowns. Cooley probably didn't live up to expectations, but poor quarterback play didn't help his stats. He should improve with Jason Campbell starting from day one. He can push the ball downfield and will get Cooley involved in the offense. Cooley might be the most reliable target in the Redskins passing attack. Cooley isn't a huge tight end, but he has pretty good size and runs well for his size. And he has plus hands, catching nearly everything thrown his way.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
An improvement on last season seems in order for Cooley. He seems ready for that breakout season. But his usual numbers of 700-receiving yards and six touchdowns aren't too bad, so even if he stays with that, Cooley is an above-average No. 1 tight end.

The Associated Press reports the Washington Redskins did not need a tight end during the NFL Draft due to having Pro Bowl TE Chris Cooley on roster already, but they stuck with the best player available strategy and came away with TE Fred Davis in the second round. The team had a first-round grade on him. Head coach Jim Zorn is excited about the options two tight ends present and does not see Davis as a backup to Cooley. He sees him as one-half of a tandem.
