SUMMARY
Running Back Rank: #188
Overall: #762

A new offensive coordinator could get Shelton more involved in the Panthers offense. And he needs some sort of change because Shelton was a non-factor in the Panthers offense his first two seasons. Shelton has eight carries in two seasons. He is a big back with so-so speed. Shelton seems like an ideal candidate for short-yardage work.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Shelton is running out of time to make an impact. He'll need a strong preseason to earn some carries, though. He doesn't seem like draft material.
Paul Woody, of the Richmond Times Dispatch, reports the Washington Redskins waived RB Eric Shelton (neck) Thursday, July 31. Shelton suffered a neck injury last week and is unable to practice.

Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton has been waived from the team.
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton could be cut from the team Monday, Aug. 27, or Tuesday, Aug. 28.
Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton may be down to his last chance with the team. The Panthers kept just three running backs last season. The team has RBs DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams as their top two backs, and RB Nick Goings is a regular on special teams. Shelton's reputation is as a powerful runner, but the team is switching their offensive scheme to use more speed. His best chance to remain with the team is if he can be a reliable short-yardage and goal-line specialist.
Fantasy Impact: Shelton is a big reach for fantasy teams.
Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton could be active for Week 6 due to injuries weakening the position.
The Carolina Panthers appear hopeful RB Eric Shelton recently admitted he was surprised to make the team's final roster, but it appears as if the team wants to give him another chance to win their short-yardage role.
Fantasy Impact: The Panthers still seem down on Shelton, so don't expect much from him this season.
Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Carolina Panthers decided not to cut RB Eric Shelton, despite some harsh comments by offensive coordinator Dan Henning last week. "He's a powerful guy who can move the pile, and that's something where if down the road anything were to happen to the people in front of him, that's a trait that's a positive trait," Panthers' head coach John Fox said.
Fantasy Impact: Even though he didn't get cut, the chances of him playing much this season are slim.
Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panther RB Eric Shelton (10 carries, 44 yards) had his best performance since being drafted in the second round last year, but he lost a fumble inside the Pittsburgh Steelers 10 during the third quarter of the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 31.
Fantasy Impact: Shelton was on the bubble to make the team, so this game helped his chances. He ran pretty well, but don't expect him to play much of a role with the team.
The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton is likely to be cut from the team. If he is cut, as expected, there is no obvious big back to gain the tough yards for the Panthers.
The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton didn't enter the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 12, until midway through the fourth quarter, and then with the Panthers starting at their own 2. That was a bit surprising because there has been talk of Shelton, last year's second-round draft pick, becoming the short-yardage back for this team. Shelton, though, was just happy to get some work. "I was waiting," he said through a smile. "It felt pretty good. We got in there and made something happen."
Fantasy Impact: At this point, Shelton doesn't seem to have too much of a role with the team. Don't bother drafting him.
