Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy does not agree with critics who feel his team has grown soft over the last couple of seasons. 'To me, we're a physical, tough football team,' McCarthy said. 'I totally disagree. I don't know how you can put the tape on and say the Green Bay Packers aren't physical.' McCarthy added the team plays the same way it did during their Super Bowl campaign. 'How do we play any different from the approach, the identity today that we did in 2010?' McCarthy said. 'How do you swing that far? You don't go from here to here.' The Packers are a passing team that struggles to run against base defenses. On defense, they have ranked 26th each of the past two seasons in average yards allowed per rush.

NFL replacement official Wayne Elliott, at the heart of the most controversial moment of the lockout, said Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has reached out to him. Elliott awarded Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate a game-winning touchdown Sept. 24 on a Hail Mary pass that appeared to have been intercepted by Packers FS M.D. Jennings. 'He called me at my house last week because he had heard I was having a rough week with all the calls and everything,' Elliott said. 'Wanted (me) to know that he thought what I did - controversial and maybe he didn't agree with it - (but he thought) I handled it with class.' Elliott said he would probably change his ruling now. 'I'd probably call interception. I learned a rule by screwing up the rule,' Elliott said.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy was happy with how his defense performed in their win over the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Aug. 23. 'I thought our defense as a whole graded out exceptionally well,' McCarthy said. 'I thought the pressure and the finish and the pursuit to the football, that's exactly what it's supposed to look like. Our defensive line and our linebackers did a very good job of bringing the pressure and, more importantly, the finish and the extra effort of always seeing two or three or four hats on the ball.'

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he is concerned over the growing list of player injuries. The team could be without LB Desmond Bishop (hamstring, knee) for the season, while OT Marshall Newhouse (concussion) and WR Greg Jennings (concussion) are recovering from concussions. The team also has little depth at the running back position. 'I don't know what's going on, I've never seen anything like it,' McCarthy said. 'I've never dealt with numbers like this before, just the number of players missing practice.'

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he has high hopes for the team in 2012. McCarthy added he believes the current edition of the Packers is the most talented team he's coached. 'I just feel with all returning players, our fourth year in the system defensively, fifth year in the system with Shawn (Slocum) ... we have a lot of experience with the players in this system,' McCarthy said. 'I just feel as a whole, it was a very athletic offseason program and I've been impressed with the quality of depth and the competition we're going to have.'
