Summary

Tight End Rank: #37All Players: #289
Scheffler isn't the starter for the Lions but gets plenty of work in their offense at tight end. He topped 500 yards last season for the first time since joining the Lions. He also had 42 receptions, giving him 40-plus receptions two of three seasons with the Lions. He should continue to play a similar role with the team this season, getting plenty of work as the No. 2 tight end in a pass-heavy offense. Scheffler has big-play ability at the tight end position. He is a great athlete with good speed and the ability to make plays after the catch. Scheffler is a tough cover over the middle as evident by his career 12.5 yards per reception average.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Scheffler is a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 tight end for fantasy teams. He'll have some big games but won't be quite as consistent as other fantasy tight ends because he isn't a starter on his team. We look for a season with around 40 receptions for 450 yards and a few scores.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said TE Tony Scheffler could receive a bigger role on offense this season because of his ability to be a receiver as well as a blocker in the offensive scheme. The team may look to get Scheffler into more favorable matchups this season.
Fantasy Impact: We wouldn't expect a big increase in targets with so many options to compete with for playing time.
Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler said he is not worried about losing time to rookie WR Ryan Broyles. Scheffler frequently played in the slot in the team's two-tight end personnel groupings last season, but Broyles has the skill-set to make plays from the slot as well. 'It's one of those things in the NFL where you learn to take care of your business and, as long as I do my job, I'm not really concerned with how he (Broyles) fits in,' Scheffler said. 'I'll help him out. We'll do a lot of similar stuff, so it's fun to have him. He's a great athlete and shoot, he's one of the best college wide receivers that ever played.'

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said RB Kevin Smith and TE Tony Scheffler were fine after their collision and were able to finish practice Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Fantasy Impact: Good to hear. Initial reports made the injuries sound pretty serious. They should be fine going forward.

Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler had three grabs for 37 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears. Scheffler has touchdowns in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
Fantasy Impact: He is worth a look as a spot starter but his production will be sporadic.

Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler had three receptions for 38 yards and a score in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos. It Scheffler's first trip to the end zone since scoring in each of his first two games this season.
Fantasy Impact: He is a risky fantasy play but worth some spot starts in his current role.
