Minnesota Vikings OG Charlie Johnson is owed a $500,000 roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year and figure to pay it, if for no other reason than to preserve continuity. But Johnson's scheduled salary cap number of $4.35 million in the last non-voidable year of his contract is a lot to pay for average performance at the guard position.

Minnesota Vikings OG Charlie Johnson said playing the guard position is easier than tackle. Johnson is moving to left guard after the selection of OT Matt Kalil in the NFL Draft. 'A lot of times in pass protection as a guard, you can try to funnel a guy back inside toward the center because the center might be uncovered,' Johnson said. 'He may be free and looking to help where help is needed. That's the biggest change. You can get more help instead of being out on an island.'
