Detroit Lions CB Chris Houston (toe) underwent surgery on his toe earlier this week, and it's unknown if he'll be able to make it back in time for training camp this summer. 'I'm not certain, to be honest with you,' head coach Jim Caldwell said. 'I kind of leave those things up to our physicians. Those guys went to school for a long time to get those medical degrees and so what I do is try to focus in on what we're doing and I let them sort of navigate through it and give me an indication of it at some point in time.' Houston is expected to be one of the team's starting cornerbacks this year alongside CB Darius Slay.

He's a young man and typically they heal pretty quickly, unlike old guys like me. But we anticipate that he'll come along, but we'll have to just wait and see,' Caldwell said.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he is confident CB Chris Houston will improve next season after struggling this season. 'I'm very confident in Chris,' Mayhew said. 'He's a veteran player, he knows how to play the game. As you know he had some injury issues, had some off-field issues last season. We're confident in Chris' game.'
