Jones missed a lot of time with an ankle sprain but started some when playing the eight games he was able to play. He caught 23 passes for 231 yards, which were career highs for him. He has some upside and could start from day one for the Bills this season. He'll compete for the starting job. Jones isn't a huge target but runs well and has pretty good hands. He still needs to sharpen his route running some but is getting better.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Jones obviously has upside if starting. He is worth a late-round flier as a reserve receiver for fantasy teams. He can get 50 or so catches for 650 yards and a few scores. Jones is capable of the big game.

Free-agent WR Donald Jones (Bills) said he was surprised that the Buffalo Bills did not tender him an offer but it will give him a chance to join another team. 'It was pretty upsetting to get the call today,' Jones said. 'It kind of was a shock. But it is what it is. Now me and my family will move forward to another team and hopefully I get to play against the Bills.'

The Buffalo Bills are trying to lock up restricted free-agent WR Donald Jones to a deal before the start of free agency, according to a league source. If the two sides do not work out an agreement before the new league year begins March 12, the Bills can submit a qualifying contract offer to Jones, then have the right to match any offer to him by another team or allow him to sign there and receive a draft choice as compensation.

Both sides are hoping to have a new deal in place before free agency kicks off March 12, when he's scheduled to become a restricted free agent. Jones caught 41 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns last season.
