Notes
New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich, who lined up with the first-team defense throughout the team's organized team activities and minicamp, is expected to be the starter at middle linebacker when training camp begins on July 26. He's aware that the job appears to be his to secure and has been 'very commanding,' according to defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. 'He's taken a leadership role out there and I think he has some good respect from his teammates in some of the things he's done in the OTAs. Obviously, we want to find out what happens when the pads come on.' LB Dan Connor figured to stand a good chance to starter in the middle, but he's been unable to displace Herzlich.

New York Giants LBs Mark Herzlich and Spencer Paysinger might be in line for more playing time in 2013 depending on whether or not impending free-agent LBs Chase Blackburn and Keith Rivers are brought back. The team might also look to add a veteran linebacker in free agency and perhaps draft one as well.

New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich said he believes he can win the starting middle linebacker position during offseason workouts and training camp. 'It's mine for the taking,' Herzlich said. 'I wish the best for everybody else, but it's still a competition. I want the team to do well, and if it's not the spot that the coaches want me in, then that's one thing. But the way I look at it is, there is a place that I can play and I don't want anyone to take that away from me.'

New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich has had a journey to Super Bowl XLVI unlike any other, which is why his reaction to arriving on site was unique in the game's history. 'Two years ago, I was told I might never walk again,' Herzlich posted on his official Twitter page. 'Just WALKED off plane in Indy to play in (the Super Bowl). Take that (expletive) cancer.' Herzlich had surgery in November 2009 to put a rod through his femur, and he was told he was never going to walk again. However, he returned to the Boston College football team in 2010 for his senior season, and he was an undrafted free agent addition by the Giants last summer.
