Summary

The Jets continue to boast a top defense. New York ranked fifth overall and scored the ninth most fantasy points. Their huge strength, thanks to shutdown corner Darrelle Revis, is their pass defense, which ranked fifth. The Jets also had 19 interceptions, which was among the best last season. They don't do a great job of pressuring the quarterback, though, which might be their one weakness. The Jets had 35 sacks, a number that isn't terrible but not great, either. The Jets also had a few issues against the run, ranking 13th but that number is higher because teams try to run a lot more than pass against this squad. The Jets have a pretty good special teams unit with Joe McKnight leading the way in the return game. He has big-play ability and gives the special teams a spark.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
The sacks are about the only thing holding this unit back, but the interception, yardage and point totals make the Jets a top fantasy starter. New York isn't an elite fantasy defense but close to that group at the top.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he is unhappy with how LB Quinton Coples has performed in the weight room this offseason. Ryan said he believes Coples could play outside linebacker but will have to compete for a starting job if he does not improve in the weight room.

New York Jets LB Quinton Coples said he believes his switch to outside linebacker should allow him to make more plays in 2013. After weighing 290 pounds last year as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, Coples is down to 285 pounds and said he expects to play between 280-285 pounds this upcoming season. 'I feel good,' Coples said of the switch. 'I think it's definitely going to open up more opportunities for me to get to the quarterback and also show my athleticism and drop into coverage.'

New York Jets DL Quinton Coples will be moved to 3-4 outside linebacker, according to a league source. Head coach Rex Ryan uses multiple fronts, so it's quite possible Coples will be deployed as a down lineman in certain situations; however, the plan for now is to stand him up.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday, April 30, that there is a possibility that drafting DT Sheldon Richardson could knock DL Quinton Coples out to an edge rusher position. Ryan worked Coples out as an outside linebacker at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2012.

The New York Jets may use the 4-3 defensive alignment more often next season. LB David Harris would be the middle linebacker while LB Demario Davis would be the weakside linebacker. DL Quinton Coples could be used as a defensive end in that alignment.
