Although San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James appears closer to seeing game action, RB Frank Gore said James still has some learning to do. Gore is doing what he can to get James up to speed, particularly learning how to play with a slower pace. Gore said James runs at full-tilt all the time. 'In college, there's a big space. But not here. He has a tough time with that,' Gore said. 'I told him, 'It's not how fast you are. It's about patience and how fast you can get through it.' I told him that he had to let things develop.'
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday, Dec. 4, there is a possibility RB LaMichael James could see action in Week 14. According to Harbaugh, James has 'worked hard for an opportunity' and his debut is 'something that's definitely a possibility.' With backup RB Kendall Hunter (Achilles') out for the season, the team turned to RB Brandon Jacobs in Week 13, but he chipped in with four carries for six yards.

Even though San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James hasn't been active for any games this year, he may have the best shot to become the backup to RB Frank Gore. James and QB Colin Kaepernick ran a zone-read offense effectively together in the preseason, and James ran a similar offense in college at Oregon. However, James has spent almost all of his practice time on the scout team this year, and he hasn't had much experience in special teams, which could hurt his chances. RB Anthony Dixon has been active every game this year because he is vital to the special teams. RB Brandon Jacobs doesn't make any special teams contributions either, so if James is active over Dixon, the team will have two backup running backs who don't contribute on special teams.
San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James might finally get his chance to shine as the change of pace back behind RB Frank Gore following the season-ending injury to RB Kendall Hunter (ankle). Teammate FS Donte Whitner likes what he has seen from James on the practice squad. 'He's a guy similar to (New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles). He can carry the ball up inside. I know he's anxious to get out there and play,' Whitner said Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Fantasy Impact: James isn't worth grabbing unless you are in a deeper PPR format.
San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James could be activated after RB Kendall Hunter (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 12.
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins and RB LaMichael James have combined to be active for one game this season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said they have been working hard during practice but have not played in a game because the players in front of them on the depth chart have stayed healthy.

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James said Monday, Oct. 22, that he is not frustrated by his role in his rookie season, and he likened it to being a freshman in college. He has been inactive in every game this season. 'I don't look down and say, 'Hey, I'm a horrible player',' he said. 'I think I can play with anybody out there. I really do believe that. But at the same time, I do need to learn. That's big - learn the NFL game.'
