Like many other teams around the league, the Colts loaded up at tight end this offseason. Allen gives the team another top pass-catching threat at the position. He should get plenty of playing time as a rookie, serving as the No. 2 tight end behind/next to fellow rookie Coby Fleener. Allen is a solid pass catcher with a knack for picking up first downs. He has enough speed to stretch the field and is a tough cover because of his size. He isn't a great blocker just yet but should get better in that area with time.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Allen won't produce as well as Fleener but he can near his numbers as he should get plenty of playing time. A season with 30 to 40 receptions for 500 yards and five or so scores seems about right for Allen, making him a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 fantasy tight end.

Fantasy Impact: Allen has some value as a starter as long as Coby Fleener is out.

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen made his first NFL reception memorable - a 3-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter of the Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings. It was Allen's only grab of the game.
Fantasy Impact: Allen isn't worth using just yet but could become a fantasy option before long. He just needs to keep getting targets.

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said the Colts will play two or three tight ends this year. He is looking for rookies Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen to get on the field and compete to find a role because the tight ends could be used at wide receiver, running back and fullback. Arians said the team's tight ends are all very talented and can be used in a lot of different roles. 'So I like to think back to a Kenny Dilger or a Marcus Pollard, that type of skill set where we can split them out and have them in the backfield and see how the other guys come in and keep growing. So the sky's the limit for their ability,' Arians said of the teams' rookie tight ends.

Updating a previous report, the terms of the deal agreed to by Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen was not known. However, he was slotted to receiver a four-year, $3.2 million contract with a signing bonus of about $834,000.
