SUMMARY
Wide Receiver Rank: #257
Overall: #785

Mason saw his stats dip last season, but he remained the most dependable receiver in the Ravens offense. He had 802-receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Last season did break his streak of three straight 1,000-yard seasons, though. But it wasn't a surprise to see his numbers do down at the age of 36 (37 now). Mason had just one 100-yard game, but had at least three receptions in 11 of 16 games. Mason keeps chugging along, but you have to wonder how much he has left, especially if you consider he has played every game the last eight seasons. At this stage, Mason is more of a possession receiver than anything. He'll be the No. 3 receiver in the Jets' offense. He still has great hands, decent speed and runs above-average routes.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Mason started to slow last season, but still showed he can help fantasy teams. The knock on Mason his entire fantasy career has been touchdowns (never scored double-digit), so don't expect that to change at this point of his career. He can still get you some catches and yards, but another dip in stats should be expected, making him a No. 4 or 5 for fantasy teams.
Former NFL WR Derrick Mason said the New York Jets' locker room was dysfunctional, and he believes the dysfunction that continued after he was traded was evidence that he was used as a scapegoat. 'They were a mess,' Mason said. 'It was a cluster you-know-what. You don't see stuff like this, it's not the norm. Before I left, you could see it materializing. Things heated up. If I was the problem, it would have stopped. If I was the guy complaining, it would have stopped. I wasn't the cancer in the locker room.'

Free-agent WR Derrick Mason (Texans) said he is retiring from professional football.
Fantasy Impact: Not a surprise. He was done this season. He had a great career and was a solid fantasy receiver for many years.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Friday, Oct. 21, that WR Derrick Mason has a full grasp of the offense heading into the Week 7 game. 'He's way ahead as far as the game plan. He's got the full grasp, Kubiak said. 'Last week he kind of played in a package. This week, he'll play in the whole scheme of things. He's moved forward.'

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Wednesday, Oct. 19, that WR Derrick Mason is making progress. 'He's doing good. The two days last week and then he helps us in the game,' Kubiak said. 'He looked good today, mentally. He can still run so he'll be able to help us.'

Houston Texans WR Derrick Mason had three receptions for 27 yards in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens in his team debut.
Fantasy Impact: Mason got some action in his debut with the Texans. We wouldn't expect much on a weekly basis but he could have a few more games similar to this.

Houston Texans WR Derrick Mason, who was just acquired from the New York Jets, played against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago. He'll face the Ravens, one of his former teams, again in Week 6 in his debut for the Texans. He has two receptions for 37 yards in Week 4.
Fantasy Impact: Don't expect much from Mason in a reserve role for the Texans.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said WR Derrick Mason should be able to play in Week 6 and that he will line up at several different places in the offense.
Fantasy Impact: Mason might get some playing time but still isn't much of a fantasy play. His work will be sporadic.
