2014 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
Carolina Panthers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

The Panthers have a great defense, so that will keep them in plenty of games - even if the offense has some struggles, which is possible. It will be hard for Carolina to match last season but should contend for a playoff spot and division title. The defense can shut down the opposition and Newton can carry an offense at times, which is a good combo. Just don't be surprised if the team loses a couple more game compared to last year.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Tight end Greg Olsen has been very good since joining the Panthers but he can take his game to another level this season. He is going to be the top passing target and should get a ton of targets with the Panthers thin at the receiver position. Olsen has the trust of Cam Newton and should lead the team in targets for the season. It wouldn't surprise if he even hits the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. He'll be a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end this season.
FANTASY DUD
We don't necessarily think Cam Newton will be awful this season but he likely won't live up to his draft spot. Newton lost a ton at receiver and didn't gain much during the offseason. He just has little to work with in the passing game and the running game is a concern with two backs that seem to be fading rather than getting better. It is going to be hard for Newton to produce big numbers in this offense. It is a shame to see him not being able to shine because of a lack of supporting talent.

Team Notes

Sep 18, 05:02 PM Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) missed his second straight day of practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Impact: Williams seems likely to miss another week of action.
Sep 18, 04:52 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin looked good in his first NFL game in Week 1, but he showed growing pains on route running, downfield blocking and with dropped passes in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. The team graded Benjamin a 70 out of 100 in Week 1 for poor routes and a lack of blocking. He was graded at 93 last week despite catching only two passes for 43 yards. Benjamin also had three drops against the Lions after having a high drop rate of 9 percent at Florida State in 2013.

Fantasy Impact: He is a rookie, so expect some ups and downs. We like his potential in this offense, though. He'll get better.
Sep 18, 04:52 PM Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (calf) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 18.
Sep 18, 04:32 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Impact: He'll be ready to go this week.
Sep 18, 04:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jason Avant (thigh) and RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. WR Jerricho Cotchery (thigh), FB Mike Tolbert (chest) and OT Garry Williams (thigh) were limited, while OT Byron Bell (toe), WR Philly Brown (ankle), OT Nate Chandler (toe) and DT Dwan Edwards (back) practiced in full.
Sep 17, 07:03 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Impact: Benjamin should be ready to go for the game this weekend.
Sep 17, 06:53 PM Carolina Panthers OT Byron Bell (toe), WR Philly Brown (ankle), OT Nate Chandler (toe), LB Thomas Davis (hip), DT Dwan Edwards (back), RB Mike Tolbert (chest), RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) and OT Garry Williams (thigh) all did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17. WR Jason Avant (thigh) was limited.
Sep 17, 06:53 PM Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (calf) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Sep 17, 06:53 PM Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Impact: Williams is iffy to play once again. Get other options ready.
Sep 17, 04:53 PM Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy has agreed to be placed on the commissioner's exempt list, according to a source.
Sep 16, 04:53 PM The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent RB Lache Seastrunk (Seahawks) to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Sep 16, 01:23 PM Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2, but head coach Ron Rivera said Tolbert looks to be fine.
Sep 16, 01:23 PM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) was dealing with a bit of soreness in his foot after the Week 2 game, according to head coach Ron Rivera. However, Rivera thinks it's a good sign after Newton had offseason ankle surgery back in March. 'Because it's more sore than his back, Rivera said. Which is good. At least, I think it's good. He's moving around pretty good and he's feeling pretty good about himself.'
Sep 16, 01:13 PM Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) is expected to return to practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and be ready to play in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Williams sat out in Week 2 with a thigh injury that flared up earlier in the week. Williams led the team with 14 carries and 72 yards rushing in Week 1.
Sep 15, 02:42 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) had his right knee taped Monday, Sept. 15, but appeared to be walking fine.

Fantasy Impact: He seemed to suffer a bruise more than anything. He should be alright going forward.
Sep 15, 02:12 PM Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (thigh) is scheduled to work out Tuesday, Sept. 16, in order to test his injured thigh.
