Team Grade:
Carolina Panthers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

The Panthers have a dominating defense and an offense that is finally showing more signs of life. This team can make the playoffs but might not be a Super Bowl caliber team just yet. A lot will depend on the play of quarterback Cam Newton. If Newton can take his game up a notch, this team could improve on the last few seasons. The Panthers will be a tough opponent on a weekly basis.
Receiver Kelvin Benjamin had a big rookie season, hitting the 1,000-yard mark. He was a bit inconsistent at times, though, dropping some passes and struggling some with his route running. If he can improve in those areas, which seems likely, Benjamin can even top his season last year. Heā??ll get a ton of targets as the clear No. 1 for the Panthers. Benjamin can be a low-end No. 1 for fantasy teams, improving his touchdown and yardage totals from his rookie year.
He finally has less competition for carries but Jonathan Stewart isnā??t a sure thing for fantasy teams. He has battled injury issues much of his career and had just a couple good seasons as the No. 1 back for the Panthers. Stewart has potential in a starting role but isnā??t a sure thing by any means. He has injury concerns and inconsistency issues, making a candidate to be drafted higher than he should come draft day.

Team Notes

Jul 28, 05:33 PM Carolina Panthers RB Darrin Reaves was waived Tuesday, July 28.
Jul 27, 03:02 PM Carolina Panthers OT Jonathan Martin (back) has chosen to retire. Martin will need surgery on his injured back.
Jul 24, 02:32 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin said he is currently at his playing weight a week before training camp begins. Benjamin said he has changed his conditioning and diet in order to stay in shape.

Fantasy Impact: This is good to hear. He should be just fine for the coming year. His conditioning isn't a concern.
Jul 23, 10:42 AM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) is expected to be 100% ready for training camp, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
Jul 19, 06:32 PM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's 33 rushing touchdowns over the last four years are the most by any quarterback during that span.
Jul 17, 10:02 PM Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart led the team with 175 carries and 200 touches last year, but he missed three games and has missed a combined 20 games since 2012.
Jul 17, 09:12 PM Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly is a free agent after the 2015 season, and the team would like to sign him to an extension this year, according to a league source.
Jun 27, 09:52 PM Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown has developed into more than just a deep threat, according to TE Greg Olsen. 'Last year at this time, Corey was a guy where we said, 'Wow, he's fast.' This year he is a receiver,' Olsen said. 'The guy can play. He's not just a one-trick pony, a guy who is just going to run deep. He has a lot of natural instinct to him. He has a good feel.'
Jun 25, 03:52 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin's reported weight gain this offseason is being overblown, according to general manager Dave Gettleman. Gettleman expects Benjamin to be ready to go for training camp next month. A team source said Benjamin, who played at 245 pounds as a rookie last year, showed up to workouts in April nine pounds overweight. 'It really is much ado about nothing. Right now he's only five pounds off his playing weight. That's it,' Gettleman said after the team wrapped up their three-day minicamp. Benjamin has had weight problems before, as he took a redshirt year in college after being 20 pounds overweight. He had 73 catches for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns in 2014, but he missed 10 of 14 practices during organized team activities and minicamp with injuries to both his hamstrings.

Fantasy Impact: Benjamin can improve on last season. We aren't too worried about this weight issue. He'll be ready to go for the start of the season.
Jun 19, 09:52 PM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton won't run less in 2015 because of the contract extension he received, general manager Dave Gettleman said. 'He's got to be Cam,' Gettleman said. 'You don't hold back a thoroughbred, you don't.'
Jun 19, 09:22 AM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has better footwork and decision making in what head coach Ron Rivera called the best he has seen from Newton in practice this week. 'I think it's all part of his growth,' said Rivera. 'Again, he's a young man. He came into this league after playing only one year of major-college football. I think it's been good for him. I think his development is really headed in the right direction and again the big plus is we've had him (healthy) for all the OTAs (organized team activities) and minicamp this year.'
Jun 18, 11:02 AM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) showed up 8 or 9 pounds overweight, and head coach Ron Rivera believes Benjamin's hamstring injury could be a result of that. 'It could be as simple as weight,' Rivera said in an attempt to explain why Benjamin suffered another hamstring injury just as he returned from one. 'He did come in a little heavy and he had to work himself into shape. Or diet or something. We're going to take a look at it and make sure it's not a chronic issue with him. He's too good a football player to have on the sideline.'

Fantasy Impact: We wouldn't worry too much about this situation. He'll get his weight down soon enough.
Jun 17, 05:53 PM Carolina Panthers OG Tyronne Green (Achilles') is out for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon he suffered Tuesday, June 16.
Jun 17, 12:33 PM Carolina Panthers WR Stephen Hill has been one of the standout performers during offseason workouts, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
Jun 17, 12:23 PM Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) did not take part in practice Wednesday, June 17, because of a hamstring injury. It is not the same hamstring he injured earlier this offseason.
Jun 13, 10:22 PM Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne can carry the load in the event of an injury to RB Jonathan Stewart, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
