2014 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
Carolina Panthers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

The Panthers have a great defense, so that will keep them in plenty of games - even if the offense has some struggles, which is possible. It will be hard for Carolina to match last season but should contend for a playoff spot and division title. The defense can shut down the opposition and Newton can carry an offense at times, which is a good combo. Just don't be surprised if the team loses a couple more game compared to last year.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Tight end Greg Olsen has been very good since joining the Panthers but he can take his game to another level this season. He is going to be the top passing target and should get a ton of targets with the Panthers thin at the receiver position. Olsen has the trust of Cam Newton and should lead the team in targets for the season. It wouldn't surprise if he even hits the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. He'll be a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end this season.
FANTASY DUD
We don't necessarily think Cam Newton will be awful this season but he likely won't live up to his draft spot. Newton lost a ton at receiver and didn't gain much during the offseason. He just has little to work with in the passing game and the running game is a concern with two backs that seem to be fading rather than getting better. It is going to be hard for Newton to produce big numbers in this offense. It is a shame to see him not being able to shine because of a lack of supporting talent.

Team Notes

Feb 26, 02:32 PM Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy will seek immediate reinstatement after a judge overturned Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's suspension, according to a source.
Feb 24, 12:23 PM Free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) said he was not upset when the Carolina Panthers told him last week that he'd be released. Williams told Charlotte's WBTV that DE Greg Hardy was the only member of the organization to attend his mother's funeral in Arkansas last May. The Panthers are saying that Williams has not officially been released. The team can save $2 million under the salary cap by designating him a post-June 1 cut. Williams said owner Jerry Richardson's failure to reach out to Williams after his mother's death was 'extremely disappointing.'

Fantasy Impact: Williams will be released shortly and could find work as a backup with some team. His best days are behind him.
Feb 23, 05:33 PM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's expected new long-term contract may get done later rather than sooner. The topic of Newton's new deal was not even discussed when Newton's representatives and the Panthers met during the NFL scouting combine. If a new deal is not done this year, Carolina could franchise tag him in 2016.
Feb 23, 03:23 PM Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams may be on his way out of Carolina. Williams, who turns 32 in two months, played in just six games last season while Jonathan Stewart found new life. Cutting Williams would also save the Panthers $2 million in salary cap space.
Feb 22, 09:52 AM Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy could receive interest from the Cincinnati Bengals during free agency.
Feb 22, 08:02 AM Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's representatives were scheduled to meet with the team this weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Talks for a new contract were on the agenda.
Feb 20, 07:42 AM Free-agent OT Byron Bell (Panthers) has a vote of confidence from head coach Ron Rivera, but the team did not say either way whether Bell would be retained for next season and beyond.
Feb 14, 04:42 AM Free-agent OL Chris Scott has re-signed with the Carolina Panthers for the 2015 season. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Feb 13, 11:22 PM Carolina Panthers impending-free agent DE Greg Hardy will likely be pursued heavily by the Dallas Cowboys if the team can free up enough cap room, according to Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com.
Feb 13, 05:52 PM Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy will remain on the commissioner's exempt list while the NFL investigates whether he violated the league's personal conduct policy. The NFL has filed a motion seeking all of the evidence from Hardy's first trial where he was found guilty of assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend. Hardy could be suspended at least six games if he is found to be in violation of the policy.
Feb 12, 09:12 PM Carolina Panthers WR Philly Brown became a part of three-receiver sets in Week 11, and he said he expects to make even more plays next season.
Feb 09, 10:52 AM Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) could still be subject to a suspension in 2015 after his domestic violence case was dismissed Monday, Feb. 9.
Feb 09, 10:42 AM Free-agent DE Greg Hardy (Panthers) had his domestic violence case dismissed Monday, Feb. 9. Prosecutors believe they did not have enough evidence to go forward with the case without Hardy's accuser, who has declined to cooperate.
Feb 08, 10:32 AM Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy is not expected to re-sign with the team this offseason, according to sources.
Feb 04, 07:53 AM Carolina Panthers special teams coordinator Richard X. Rodgers was reassigned on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Head coach Ron Rivera moved Rodgers' assistant, Bruce DeHaven, into the coordinator role. Rodgers' new role was not disclosed, but a source indicated it may be on the defensive staff.
Jan 31, 04:32 AM Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson, who signed a one-year contract for the 2014 season, wants to return to the team and has discussed a multi-year deal.
