Outlook

The Bengals had a great season last year but struggled in the playoffs once again. They need to take that next step during the postseason. Could this be the year? Much of it will depend on Andy Dalton, who has struggled with his playoff chances. A move to a more run-first approach might be a good thing for Dalton, taking a little of the pressure off of him. The Bengals have an elite defense that can shut down the opposition and keep them in almost any game. This will be a very good team once again that could take a step forward in the playoffs this season.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Running back Giovani Bernard moves into the starting lineup his second season in the league. He had a very good rookie season but lost plenty of touches to BenJarvus Green-Ellis. That won't be the case this season but he will have Jeremy Hill to contend with for carries but Bernard should get more work than last season. Bernard is a complete back that does well as a runner and receiver. He lacks some size but has explosion and big-game ability. We expect plenty of big games from him this season and huge yardage numbers.
FANTASY DUD
Tight end Jermaine Gresham saw his numbers dip last season and another dip wouldn't be a surprise with Tyler Eifert emerging as the big-play target at tight end for the Bengals. Gresham just doesn't bring much to the table anymore. He'll get some catches but his yards aren't very good and he has never been much of a red-zone threat. Gresham is no longer fantasy relevant in his current situation. Eifert is the tight end to own in Cincinnati.

Team Notes

Sep 19, 10:52 AM Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) said he feels good Friday, Sept. 19, and is ready to play in Week 3.

Fantasy Impact: This is great to hear. Get him in your lineup.
Sep 18, 07:42 PM Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) looks unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans after leaving each of the first two games of the year with concussions. He appears to be in the early stages of the concussion protocol, which would leave him unavailable for Sunday's game.
Sep 18, 06:12 PM Cincinnati Bengals OG Clint Boling (rest), LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion), RB Rex Burkhead (knee), LB Sean Porter (hamstring), DT Brandon Thompson (knee) and OG Kevin Zeitler (calf) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. S Shawn Williams (groin) was limited, while OG Mike Pollak (knee) and OT Andrew Whitworth (knee) practiced in full.
Sep 18, 04:12 PM Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) was back at practice Thursday, Sept. 18, and he hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. 'If it's feeling good, then I'm going to go,' Green said. 'If it's not, then we'll go from there.' Green lined up out wide and ran at a good pace during practice. He felt the injury all of last week during practice, and he wasn't able to get full extension when he ran in Week 2. Head coach Marvin Lewis expects Green to play against the Titans. If he doesn't play, WR Mohamed Sanu will replace him as the No. 1 receiver.

Fantasy Impact: Green looks like a true game-time decision for this week but at least he has a shot at playing.
Sep 18, 02:22 PM Cincinnati Bengals RBs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill have formed an impressive backfield tandem under offensive coordinator Hue Jackson so far after two games. Bernard is on pace for 328 carries and Hill is on pace for 152. Bernard and Hill combined for 164 yards on 42 carries in the Week 2 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Both guys are showing they can not only run it, but they also have the ability to catch it and they not only can catch it, but they can make runs after the catch. Their creativity is a key factor in what's been going on. When you have weapons where anytime a guy can get the ball and they can take it to the house, it makes you feel good,' former running backs coach Jim Anderson said.
Sep 18, 09:53 AM Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (foot) is likely to play in Week 3, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

Fantasy Impact: This is good news to hear for fantasy owners.
Sep 17, 11:23 PM Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is on pace for 328 carries, while rookie RB Jeremy Hill is ticketed for 152 for a total of 480. That would be the most by two Bengals backs in a single season, shattering the previous record of 405, set in 2000. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson isn't estimating how many carries each will get on a given day, and said Wednesday, Sept. 17, that is varies from series to series. He calls plays on the sidelines rather than up in the booth so he can sense the ebb and flow of the game. 'It's the way things unfold. But Gio is the starting tailback on this football team. So at the end of the day, he's going to get some chances that maybe everybody else doesn't get until he proves he can't or the other guy proves that he's better,' Jackson said.

Fantasy Impact: Bernard is going to have a huge season in this offense.
Sep 17, 11:23 PM Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill is on pace for a total of 152 carries, while RB Giovani Bernard is on pace for 328 carries. The most runs in franchise history by two backs is 405, set in 2000. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson isn't outing any particular numbers out there for carries, and said it goes from series to series who will see the ball. He said that is why he calls plays from the sidelines, so he can sense the ebb and flow of the game.

Fantasy Impact: This is turning into a timeshare, which isn't a bad thing for either back. They are both going to get their carries.
Sep 17, 08:03 PM Several clubs have reportedly reached out to free-agent RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Bengals), who is still in the process of rehab after suffering a hip injury in the preseason.
Sep 17, 05:03 PM Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion), RB Rex Burkhead (knee), OG Mike Pollak (knee), LB Sean Porter (hamstring), DT Brandon Thompson (knee), OT Andrew Whitworth (knee), OG Kevin Zeitler (calf), WR Marvin Jones (foot) and TE Alex E. Smith (biceps) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17. SS Shawn Williams (groin) was limited during practice.
Sep 17, 04:13 PM Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) was diagnosed with a concussion Wednesday, Sept. 17, and did not participate in practice.
Sep 17, 12:22 PM Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) will sit out practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, but will try to practice Thursday, Sept. 18. He said he hopes to be able to play Week 3. He said his injury is like turf toe but not as bad. He is not worried about the injury lingering.
Sep 16, 04:13 PM Cincinnati Bengals TE Ryan Otten was released from the practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Sep 16, 04:03 PM Cincinnati Bengals TE Alex E. Smith (biceps) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Sep 16, 02:33 PM The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed TE Kevin Brock Tuesday, Sept. 16. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Sep 15, 07:02 PM Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has not been hit once on 63 dropbacks so far this season.

Fantasy Impact: Needless to say, this is a huge advantage for Dalton, playing behind one of the best offensive lines in football.
