2013 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
Green Bay Packers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

The Packers remain an elite team. They get it done on both sides of the ball. Green Bay has maybe the most consistent offense in the game and should continue to pile up the points. And don't overlook the defense, which does a good job of causing turnovers and making big plays. Green Bay is a legit Super Bowl contender once again and should make another trip to the playoffs. The pieces are there for this team to have another big season.

FANTASY BREAKOUT

Eddie Lacy, RB. Lacy might not get a ton of yards for a starting running back but you have to love his touchdown potential in this offense. He'll get the goal-line work for the Packers and has a good shot to score double-digit touchdowns. The Packers are a pass-first team but will use Lacy to keep defenses honest. We don't see big yardage games in his future but his touchdown chances on a weekly basis should be high.

FANTASY DUD

James Jones, WR. Jones had a breakout year, scoring 14 touchdowns and getting consistent work in the Packers' offense. But don't overlook he caught 64 passes and had fewer than 800 yards. Without all those scores, James has a pretty mediocre season for fantasy purposes. It just seems a stretch to count on Jones scoring that much again. His receptions and yards could go up a little but expect his touchdowns to go down. It is hard to imagine him repeating his prolific scoring season from last year.

Team Notes

Apr 16, 04:13 PM Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews (thumb) said he likely will be limited during offseason workouts because of his surgically repaired thumb.
Apr 16, 10:01 AM Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn is expected to compete with QB Scott Tolzien for the backup quarterback job, but head coach Mike McCarthy anticipates keeping three QBs on the roster to open the season.

Fantasy Impact: Flynn would seem the favorite to win the job, especially after performing well when forced to start last season.
Apr 15, 02:23 PM The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal to re-sign QB Matt Flynn Tuesday, April 15, according to a source.

Fantasy Impact: He should remain the top backup for the Packers. It is a good move for Flynn and the Packers.
Apr 14, 03:32 PM Updating a previous report, the Miami Dolphins have told the agent of free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) that they could be interested in signing Finley if he is cleared to play again after next surgery.
Apr 14, 12:42 PM The New York Giants will work out free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Packers) Tuesday, April 15.
Apr 13, 06:32 PM The Miami Dolphins have talked to free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (Packers).
Apr 12, 11:02 PM Green Bay Packers CB Micah Hyde said he has not been told what his role will be in the defense this upcoming season but will be willing to play safety if asked.
Apr 12, 09:12 PM The Green Bay Packers could consider re-signing DT Johnny Jolly (neck) depending on how he is doing in his recovery from neck surgery.
Apr 11, 01:42 PM The New York Giants have reached out to free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Packers).
Apr 09, 02:13 PM Green Bay Packers CB Casey Hayward (hamstring) said he expects to be ready to participate when offseason workouts starts in a few weeks. Hayward has been working out without any restrictions this offseason but has not fully exerted himself at this time.
Apr 08, 06:53 PM Free-agent TE Jermichael Finley (neck) will have X-rays on his neck Thursday, April 10, and will undergo an MRI exam within two weeks. The scans will then be looked at by Dr. Joseph Maroon, the neurosurgeon who performed the spinal fusion on Finley last year. Finley hopes to share the results with interested teams if they are positive. The Green Bay Packers, Finley's former team, are one of the interested parties, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
Apr 04, 09:52 PM Green Bay Packers LB Jamari Lattimore and Sam Barrington could push LB Brad Jones for one of the starting inside linebacker jobs this upcoming season.
Apr 04, 09:42 PM Green Bay Packers OT Derek Sherrod likely will compete with OT David Bakhtiari for the left tackle job during training camp.
Apr 04, 09:42 PM Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless is considered the leading candidate to be the starting tight end in 2014 but could be beaten out by another player for the job.
Apr 04, 09:32 PM Green Bay Packers WR Jarrett Boykin is expected to be the team's No. 3 wide receiver this upcoming season.

Fantasy Impact: Boykin is a player on the rise. He should do well in this role and has some big-game potential.
Apr 03, 01:32 PM The Green Bay Packers re-signed FB John Kuhn to a one-year contract worth just over $1 million Thursday, April 3.
