OFFSEASON GAINS AND LOSSES

It was a pretty quiet offseason for the Colts. Most of their moves were made in the draft. The Colts did lose a couple long-time players, receiver Marvin Harrison and running back Dominic Rhodes, but both were on the downside of their careers and should be able to be replaced.

The Colts used the draft to find a backup and possible starting running back in Donald Brown. He has a lot of talent and seems a great fit for the Colts scheme. Brown should push Joseph Addai for playing time. Indy also used a second-round pick on defensive tackle Fili Moala, who gives the team a much-needed presence in the middle of the line.

STRENGTHS

Their passing attack remains a huge strength. Peyton Manning remains one of the best in the game and should be even better this season after being slowed early in the season last year because of knee surgery. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Anthony Gonzalez form a top trio in the passing game for Manning. All three are capable of huge games any give week and are great fits for the Colts system. You can expect the Colts to throw often once again this season and have success.

The Colts not only throw the ball well, but do a great job defending the pass. They ranked sixth against the pass. Kelvin Hayden and Marlin Jackson are emerging cornerbacks. And safety Bob Sanders might be the best in the game. This trio causes all sorts of havoc for opposing passing attacks.

WEAKNESSES

Indy did struggle stopping the run last season, though (24th against the rush). Moala is a big addition for the Colts, but he'll need some help. A healthy Bob Sanders would go a long way to shoring up this deficiency as well. Either way, we would expect teams to be able to run on the Colts and have success, especially as they try and keep the Colts offense off the field.

OUTLOOK

The Colts are always a contender to reach the Super Bowl. They lost some coaches, though, which is a concern. The new regime knows the system, which should help the transition. Expect Manning to have this team playing at a high level before all is said and done this season.
