Outlook

The Jaguars made some nice moves this offseason and seem to be headed in the right direction. But they are a young team and still are missing some pieces on both sides of the ball. This team should struggle once again, especially the offense. The Jaguars need Blake Bortles to emerge as that franchise quarterback to give the offense an identity. Until that happens, expect plenty of struggles from the Jaguars. Jacksonville should be a few games better than last season, though. Things are getting better for this team.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Receiver Cecil Shorts was on his way to a 1,000-yard season last year before missing the last three games of the season because of injury. We think he can take that next step this season. He is the No. 1 receiver in this offense, an offense that should be a little more consistent this season. Shorts continues to improve every season and should make another jump this season. He is likely to get the most targets on the team.
FANTASY DUD
Quarterback Chad Henne is expected to open the season as the starter but he is just keeping the seat warm for Blake Bortles. Henne might start much of the year but Bortles will get a shot at some point, especially if the Jaguars struggle, which is likely. Henne is always capable of the big game but he'll be inconsistent in a starting role. He always has played that way, so don't expect a change this season. Bortles is the future at the position for the Jaguars.

Team Notes

Oct 24, 07:02 PM The Jacksonville Jaguars are extremely thin at cornerback heading into the team's Week 8 game, with CBs Alan Ball (biceps) out, and Dwayne Gratz (hip flexor) questionable. There is still a chance Gratz could play, and will test the injury Sunday morning. 'That's the plan as of right now, Gratz said. See how it goes tomorrow and then on game day we'll work it out and then go from there.
Oct 24, 03:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars DE Andre Branch (groin) and CB Alan Ball (biceps) have been ruled out for Week 8. CB Dwayne Gratz (hip) is listed as questionable, while C Luke Bowanko (ankle) and SS Craig Loston (hamstring) are listed as probable. Bowanko and Loston fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 24, while the other three players did not participate in practice.
Oct 24, 03:12 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 24, and is listed as probable for Week 8.
Oct 24, 02:42 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson has risen to the top of the team's depth chart, and he's played 90 percent of the offensive snaps in the last three weeks. Robinson is well ahead of WR Marqise Lee on the wide receiver pecking order.
Oct 23, 06:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (biceps), DE Andre Branch (groin), DE Chris Clemons (non-injury), LB Geno Hayes (non-injury) and DT Roy Miller (non-injury) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 23. CB Dwayne Gratz (hip) was limited, while C Luke Bowanko (ankle) and S Craig Loston (hamstring) practiced in full.
Oct 23, 04:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (biceps) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 23, and is considered highly unlikely to play in Week 8, according to head coach Gus Bradley.
Oct 23, 03:52 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson will start at running back in Week 8 even if RB Toby Gerhart (foot) is active, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Gerhart will receive some playing time if he plays.

Fantasy Impact: This isn't a surprise. Robinson has played well with his chances. Gerhart has been a bust to date.
Oct 23, 01:12 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (biceps) traveled to San Francisco to receive a second opinion on his biceps injury. Ball does not think his injury will end his season.
Oct 23, 12:53 PM Jacksonville Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny (pectoral) underwent surgery Wednesday, Oct. 22, to repair his torn pectoral muscle.
Oct 23, 10:42 AM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) appears ready to return in Week 8, in the opinion of beat writer Hays Carlyon. The team contends they will mix and match running backs.

Fantasy Impact: Gerhart has fallen down the depth chart, though, and we wouldn't expect a ton of work.
Oct 22, 04:23 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (bicep) and DE Andre Branch (groin) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 22. C Luke Bowanko (ankle), CB Aaron Colvin (knee) and S Craig Loston (hamstring) were limited.
Oct 22, 04:13 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Impact: Gerhart has a chance to make his return this week but will get a reduced workload even if active.
Oct 21, 04:23 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson was recently lauded by head coach Gus Bradley. Bradley said Robinson is extremely competitive and the drive to succeed and get better came from within for Robinson.
Oct 21, 04:13 PM Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (ankle) is expected to be able to practice next week. Lewis is on the short-term Reserve/Injured list with a high ankle sprain.
Oct 21, 04:13 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart is progressing from a foot injury that has caused him to miss the last two games. His status will be updated Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Oct 20, 06:03 PM Jacksonville Jaguars LB Chris Smith was signed from the practice squad to the active roster Monday, Oct. 20.
