Outlook

The Jaguars made some nice moves this offseason and seem to be headed in the right direction. But they are a young team and still are missing some pieces on both sides of the ball. This team should struggle once again, especially the offense. The Jaguars need Blake Bortles to emerge as that franchise quarterback to give the offense an identity. Until that happens, expect plenty of struggles from the Jaguars. Jacksonville should be a few games better than last season, though. Things are getting better for this team.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Receiver Cecil Shorts was on his way to a 1,000-yard season last year before missing the last three games of the season because of injury. We think he can take that next step this season. He is the No. 1 receiver in this offense, an offense that should be a little more consistent this season. Shorts continues to improve every season and should make another jump this season. He is likely to get the most targets on the team.
FANTASY DUD
Quarterback Chad Henne is expected to open the season as the starter but he is just keeping the seat warm for Blake Bortles. Henne might start much of the year but Bortles will get a shot at some point, especially if the Jaguars struggle, which is likely. Henne is always capable of the big game but he'll be inconsistent in a starting role. He always has played that way, so don't expect a change this season. Bortles is the future at the position for the Jaguars.

Team Notes

Sep 19, 06:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (abdomen), DE Chris Clemons (illness), S Johnathan Cyprien (concussion), S Winston Guy Jr. (illness), RB Storm Johnson (ankle), OT Austin Pasztor (hand), LB Paul Posluszny (knee) and TE Mickey Shuler (heel) all fully participated in practice and are probable. CB Jeremy Harris (illness) did not practice and is probable. TE Clay Harbor (calf) was limited in practice and is questionable.
Sep 19, 06:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) fully practiced Friday, Sept. 19, and is probable for Week 3.
Sep 19, 04:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Allen Hurns (ankle) are both listed as probable for Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts. It will be Shorts' season debut after missing the preseason with a right hamstring injury. 'I think that we'll see how he feels but it went pretty good out there,' head coach Gus Bradley said. 'If everything goes good and we get the report (that he hasn't had a setback), then he'll start.'
Sep 18, 04:52 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Impact: Gerhart should play but is an iffy play after his first two weeks of action.
Sep 18, 04:52 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18, for the second straight day.

Fantasy Impact: Shorts is iffy to play once again. We wouldn't count on it right now.
Sep 18, 04:52 PM Jacksonville Jaguars SS Winston Guy (illness), LB Geno Hayes (rest) and DT Roy Miller (rest) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. TE Clay Harbor (calf), RB Storm Johnson (ankle) and TE Mickey Shuler (heel) were limited. SS John Cyprien (concussion), LB Paul Posluszny (knee), DE Chris Clemons (illness), CB Alan Ball (abdomen) and OT Austin Pasztor (hand) fully participated.
Sep 18, 04:42 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. Head coach Gus Bradley said Hurns will have to prove he can play Friday or else he will be inactive.
Sep 18, 04:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts. The team will have to rely on WRs Allen Robinson, Mike Brown and Tavarres King if both Hurns and WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) do not play.
Sep 18, 03:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (hamstring) aggravated his hamstring injury in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and he's now been ruled out for Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts. His availability beyond Week 3 is unknown. 'My main focus is getting it right,' said Lee, who is tied for the team lead with eight catches for 73 yards. 'The hamstring can linger. If you try to continue to try to come back, come back, come back when you're feeling 85, 90 (percent), you're still going to have issues.'
Sep 18, 01:02 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 3 game.
Sep 17, 04:33 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Impact: He should be able to play this week but we'll know more later in the week.
Sep 17, 04:33 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Impact: Shorts seems to have a decent shot to play this week.
Sep 17, 04:23 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Alan Ball (abdomen), DE Chris Clemons (illness), TE Clay Harbor (calf), WR Allen Hurns (ankle) and LB Paul Posluszny (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17. WR Marqise Lee (hamstring) was limited, while S John Cyprien (concussion), RB Storm Johnson (ankle) and OT Austin Pasztor (hand) practiced in full.
Sep 17, 09:43 AM Jacksonville Jaguars SS John Cyprien (concussion) has been cleared to resume practicing Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Sep 17, 09:33 AM Jacksonville Jaguars OT Sam Young was named the starter at right tackle, and C Luke Bowanko will start at center in Week 3.
Sep 16, 06:53 PM The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed LB Chris Smith to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.
