Outlook

The Jaguars made some nice moves this offseason and seem to be headed in the right direction. But they are a young team and still are missing some pieces on both sides of the ball. This team should struggle once again, especially the offense. The Jaguars need Blake Bortles to emerge as that franchise quarterback to give the offense an identity. Until that happens, expect plenty of struggles from the Jaguars. Jacksonville should be a few games better than last season, though. Things are getting better for this team.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Receiver Cecil Shorts was on his way to a 1,000-yard season last year before missing the last three games of the season because of injury. We think he can take that next step this season. He is the No. 1 receiver in this offense, an offense that should be a little more consistent this season. Shorts continues to improve every season and should make another jump this season. He is likely to get the most targets on the team.
FANTASY DUD
Quarterback Chad Henne is expected to open the season as the starter but he is just keeping the seat warm for Blake Bortles. Henne might start much of the year but Bortles will get a shot at some point, especially if the Jaguars struggle, which is likely. Henne is always capable of the big game but he'll be inconsistent in a starting role. He always has played that way, so don't expect a change this season. Bortles is the future at the position for the Jaguars.

Team Notes

Jan 25, 09:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has overcome his issues, and plenty of league sources expect him to be back with the team in 2015.
Jan 25, 10:02 AM Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he plans to have a passing camp in Southern California in February with his wide receivers, tight ends and running backs in order to work on their chemistry.
Jan 23, 05:42 PM Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent LB Geno Hayes is not expected to re-sign with the Jaguars this offseason.
Jan 21, 03:43 PM Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles should be able to develop under new offensive coordinator Greg Olson, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. Caldwell said Olson has the ability to develop quarterbacks and that his style of offense is tailored for young players.
Jan 21, 03:13 PM Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles developed bad habits and may need to start over, in the opinion of NFL Films guru Greg Cosell.

Fantasy Impact: Bortles has some work to do but still has a bright future.
Jan 21, 02:43 PM Jacksonville Jaguars DT Sen'Derrick Marks (knee) is on track in his return from knee surgery, according to general manager David Caldwell.
Jan 18, 08:22 AM Should Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts hit free agency as an unsigned player, the Cleveland Browns may have interest. Browns played his college ball at Division III powerhouse Mount Union, and he is from the Cleveland area.
Jan 08, 01:22 PM Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent LB J.T. Thomas would like to re-sign with the Jaguars, and the team is interested in bringing him back.
Jan 08, 01:12 PM Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent LB Geno Hayes and CB Alan Ball are not expected to re-sign with the Jaguars this offseason.

Dec 30, 02:03 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon isn't necessarily in the team's plans for next season, according to general manager David Caldwell. However, the team would like to have him on the field if he's ready, and they aren't expected to release him, either. 'I think we have to treat it as a luxury. If he comes back that's great, if he doesn't -- we can't count on it. We feel good about the three guys we've got and if he comes back that's even better,' Caldwell said. The Jags have heard that Blackmon has dedicated himself to being healthier and returning to football. Jacksonville is under no financial obligation to keep Blackmon since he's not currently on the roster.
Dec 29, 12:32 PM Jacksonville Jaguars DT Sen'Derrick Marks (knee) will have surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Monday, Dec. 29. Marks suffered the injury in Week 17.
