The Dolphins were supposed to breakthrough last season but it didn't work out as expected. Injuries didn't help matters for the team, though. Miami is healthy this year and has some new players in the mix, which should help for a rebound. Don't expect them to make the playoffs but they can be a .500 team. The defense still isn't great and has some holes. The offense could be pretty good, though, with some new players. The big issue will be the defense, which can be vulnerable to the big game. They'll need to shore up the defense before they can be expected to make the playoffs.
If he is going to have that breakout season, we think this is the year for quarterback Ryan Tannehill to do it. He has a revamped offensive line, a new offensive coordinator and some new weapons at receiver. Things are really lined up for Tannehill to have a big season. He is always capable of the big game and played well much of the season last year despite having a terrible offensive line in front of him. He should do much better since he isn't likely to be running for his life most games this season.
He signed a big contract with the team this offseason but that doesn't mean running back Knowshon Moreno will be handed a bunch of playing time. He was out of shape in offseason workouts and worked with the second team much of the time. This wasn't a good start for Moreno. He also has the talented Lamar Miller to compete with for carries. Miller probably has more talent than Moreno and could grab playing time for him if he can start running with consistency. It is just going to be really hard for Moreno to match his last season with the Broncos.

Aug 28, 11:22 AM Miami Dolphins OG Billy Turner (foot) hopes to return to practice next week even though he has been wearing a walking boot this week. Turner has a bone bruise in his left foot and will not need surgery.
Aug 27, 08:13 PM Miami Dolphins WR Marcus Thigpen (hamstring) will play in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, against the St. Louis Rams. He hasn't done much at receiver in training camp and the preseason, but he is a valuable kick returner. The team is exploring other options, such as WRs Jarvis Landry and Damian Williams. If the team is comfortable with the alternatives, Thigpen's roster spot could be in jeopardy.
Aug 27, 08:13 PM Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (hamstring) will play in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, against the St. Louis Rams.
Aug 27, 08:13 PM Miami Dolphins CB Don Jones is on the roster bubble. While he is strong on special teams, he doesn't offer much else, and his roster spot could be in jeopardy.
Aug 27, 06:43 PM The Miami Dolphins placed PK John Potter (hip) on the Reserved/Injured list Thursday, Aug. 27.
Aug 27, 11:53 AM Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno is expected to have more carries than Lamar Miller, in the opinion of Omar Kelly.
