The Dolphins were supposed to breakthrough last season but it didn't work out as expected. Injuries didn't help matters for the team, though. Miami is healthy this year and has some new players in the mix, which should help for a rebound. Don't expect them to make the playoffs but they can be a .500 team. The defense still isn't great and has some holes. The offense could be pretty good, though, with some new players. The big issue will be the defense, which can be vulnerable to the big game. They'll need to shore up the defense before they can be expected to make the playoffs.
If he is going to have that breakout season, we think this is the year for quarterback Ryan Tannehill to do it. He has a revamped offensive line, a new offensive coordinator and some new weapons at receiver. Things are really lined up for Tannehill to have a big season. He is always capable of the big game and played well much of the season last year despite having a terrible offensive line in front of him. He should do much better since he isn't likely to be running for his life most games this season.
He signed a big contract with the team this offseason but that doesn't mean running back Knowshon Moreno will be handed a bunch of playing time. He was out of shape in offseason workouts and worked with the second team much of the time. This wasn't a good start for Moreno. He also has the talented Lamar Miller to compete with for carries. Miller probably has more talent than Moreno and could grab playing time for him if he can start running with consistency. It is just going to be really hard for Moreno to match his last season with the Broncos.

Team Notes

Sep 18, 12:43 AM Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) was not on the team's injury report Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Impact: Miller will be in the starting lineup for the Dolphins in Week 3.
Sep 17, 07:33 PM Miami Dolphins LB Terrell Manning was released Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Sep 17, 06:33 PM Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Sep 17, 06:33 PM Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline (back) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Sep 17, 06:23 PM Miami Dolphins DE Terrence Fede (knee), LB Koa Misi (ankle) and OG Shelley Smith (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17. OT Branden Albert (shoulder), S Louis Delmas (calf), LB Jelani Jenkins (shoulder), C Mike Pouncey (hip), LB Jordan Tripp (chest), OG Billy Turner (foot) and LB Philip Wheeler (thumb) were limited, while S Walt Aikens (hand) and DT Randy Starks (toe) practiced in full.
Sep 16, 05:32 PM Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) thinks he's healthy enough to return to action in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. 'I feel like I can play,' Pouncey said after practice. 'But it ain't my decision. It's really not that tough. Honestly, I'm just listening to what the coaches say and the doctors say because they know best.' Pouncey practiced in full Tuesday, Sept. 16, and he looked fluid in the portion open to the media.
Sep 16, 02:13 PM Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is participating in practice Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Sep 15, 04:15 PM Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill struggled to deliver accurate passes in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and TE Charles Clay had several dropped passes. Tannehill was 5-for-16 (31 percent) on third downs, and the team was sluggish in the running game. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor likes to spread the field and create one-on-one matchups, but the Dolphins might not have the talent to run his schemes the way they were meant to be designed.
Sep 15, 01:32 PM Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills in a walking boot Sunday, Sept. 14, and his status for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs isn't known.

Fantasy Impact: The Dolphins are suddenly super thin at running back.
Sep 15, 01:22 PM Miami Dolphins LB Chris McCain (illness) hardly played at all in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills after being a big contributor in the Week 1 victory. McCain missed two days of practice last week with an illness, so there is a chance he wasn't 100 percent healthy.
Sep 15, 11:22 AM The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Daniel Thomas to an undisclosed deal Monday, Sept. 15.
Sep 15, 03:02 AM Clarifying a previous item, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) will miss at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.
Sep 14, 05:52 PM Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (ankle) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills due to an ankle injury, although it is not considered serious.
Sep 14, 05:42 PM Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay (undisclosed) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills briefly due to an undisclosed injury, but he was able to return. He finished with seven receptions for 31 yards.
Sep 14, 05:42 PM Miami Dolphins OG Shelley Smith (knee) left the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills due to a knee injury. OT Dallas Thomas replaced him.
Sep 14, 04:52 PM Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) is expected to miss four weeks due to a dislocated elbow, according to a source. He was injured in the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Impact: This is a shame as Moreno was gaining value in this offense.
