The Dolphins made quite the splash this offseason, signing several big-name free agents in hopes to turn things around. But we think much will depend on the development of Ryan Tannehill at quarterback. If he can take some step forwards, the Dolphins have a chance to compete for a playoff spot. If not, expect around a .500 season.

Lamar Miller, RB. Miller didn't get a whole lot of work as a rookie but the Dolphins seem confident he can be their No. 1 back. He'll be given first shot at the job this season in an offense that should be improved. Miller needs to show more patience as a runner and do better between the tackles but has tons of ability and upside. He is a home-run threat with the ball in his hands and a game-changing type of player. He is ready to take a big step forward this season.

Brian Hartline, WR. Hartline surprised many last season, emerging as the top receiver for the Dolphins. He was a viable fantasy option, getting plenty of weekly targets. But he will have a hard time repeating last season. Hartline has a lot more to compete with for targets, including Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson. The Dolphins made quite the upgrades at receiver, which will impact the production of Hartline. Don't draft him based off last season.

Team Notes

Apr 22, 10:43 PM Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said Tuesday, April 22, that LB Dion Jordan showed up at the team's training facility 'a couple of weeks ago' to begin training for the 2014 season.
Apr 22, 01:53 PM Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace worked out with the team Tuesday, April 22.
Apr 21, 06:43 PM Miami Dolphins CB Jamar Taylor (groin) is healthy following hernia surgery and began offseason workouts with his teammates Monday, April 21. Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said he expects big things from Taylor in 2014.
Apr 21, 05:42 PM Eugene Parker, agent for free-agent TE Dustin Keller (knee), said Keller is ready to participate in offseason workouts when he signs with a team.
Apr 21, 05:42 PM The New York Giants could have interest in free-agent TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) if the team does not select a tight end during the 2014 NFL Draft.
Apr 21, 04:22 PM Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace was not present for the start of offseason workouts Monday, April 21, but is expected to arrive Tuesday, April 22. The team knew Wallace would not be present because of a previous engagement.
Apr 20, 08:42 PM The Miami Dolphins likely will add at least two more tight ends this offseason that will compete with TE Michael Egnew for a roster spot.

Fantasy Impact: Egnew has been a big bust to date. He needs to start making some plays to keep a roster spot.
Apr 20, 02:22 AM The Miami Dolphins may let WR Brian Hartline walk following the 2014 season if the team succeeds in drafting a receiver in the second round of the NFL Draft. Releasing Hartline would save the team $4 million.
Apr 20, 12:02 AM Miami Dolphins WR Armon Binns is currently the team's No. 4 receiver, but the Dolphins have had discussions about WR Rishard Matthews replacing Binns at the spot, according to a source.
Apr 20, 12:02 AM Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson (knee) is expected to be available for the start of the offseason program, according to a source.

Apr 18, 08:02 PM The Miami Dolphins could consider talking with TE Charles Clay and DT Jared Odrick about contract extensions this offseason since they are entering the final years of their contracts.
Apr 18, 07:32 PM The Miami Dolphins plan to move LB Koa Misi to middle linebacker this upcoming season. LB Dannell Ellerbe would be moved to weakside linebacker with LB Philip Wheeler playing strongside linebacker.
Apr 18, 04:22 PM Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson (knee) said he expects to be ready to go for Week 1 of the NFL season.
Apr 17, 02:22 PM Free-agent WR Chad Johnson (Patriots) signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League Thursday, April 17.

Fantasy Impact: He isn't coming back to the NFL.
Apr 15, 01:53 PM Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey is expecting big things from DE Dion Jordan in his second season this year. He's a very talented player and this is a big offseason for him, Hickey said. Last year with his shoulder he didn't have an opportunity to have a full offseason. That's so important. Developing and getting your body -- not just the physical reps but the mental reps -- getting in the weight room and all those things is such an important part to get these guys ready to make that jump.'
