The Raiders made a lot of moves this offseason and should be improved over last season. Oakland can improve on those four wins but aren't quite a playoff team just yet. The offense still needs a top No. 1 receiver and the aging Matt Schaub isn't the long-term answer at quarterback. The defense also is erratic and can give up the big game, which also is a concern. But overall, the team is improving and getting better, which is a good thing for the Raiders.
Receiver Rod Streater was the most consistent receiver for the Raiders last season. He nearly 900 yards and caught 60 passes. He'll start from day one this season and has a much better quarterback situation to work with this season. Matt Schaub is a big improvement over what the Raiders used last season, which is a plus for Streater. He could have some big games and push towards that 1,000-yard mark this season. He is good late-round sleeper for fantasy teams, ready to take his game to a new level.
Running back Maurice Jones-Drew heads to Oakland this season in hopes of reviving his career. We aren't so sure that will happen, though. He moves to a timeshare with the Darren McFadden and likely sees a dip in touches this season. And Jones-Drew hasn't looked nearly as explosive the last few seasons, which is another concern. Plus, we think McFadden is a more talented back at this stage of his career, so he could run away with the starter's job if he happens to stay healthy. Don't expect Jones-Drew to turn things around with the Raiders.

Team Notes

Jul 19, 01:02 PM The Oakland Raiders would prefer that QB Derek Carr does not play in 2014 and is allowed to learn from the sidelines while QB Matt Schaub starts every game.

Fantasy Impact: This is the plan but nothing is ever certain. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Carr play this season.
Jul 16, 05:03 PM Oakland Raiders DT Justin Ellis likely will see most of his playing time on rushing downs when DT Pat Sims needs a break.
Jul 15, 05:33 PM Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski said Tuesday, July 15 the team needed the veterans they signed this offseason. Janikowski said the veterans will be able to help the young guys on the team.
Jul 14, 11:13 PM Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden and RB Maurice Jones-Drew could struggle while splitting carries this season, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Gutierrez noted that both backs have traditionally performed better later in games, and splitting carries could prevent both backs from finding a rhythm.
Jul 14, 04:22 PM Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub is doing what it takes to get better, according to CB Charles Woodson. Woodson said Schaub has been talking with defensive coordinator Jason Tarver after practice, which tells Woodson that Schaub knows how to improve. Woodson added that the team expects big things from him this season.
Jul 14, 02:52 PM Oakland Raiders LB Sio Moore recently said veteran teammates LaMarr Woodley and Justin Tuck make him aspire to be great like they are. Moore said they bring a higher level of expectations and energy that he wants to be a part of.
Jul 08, 11:03 AM Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn said the team plans to run the ball often in 2014. 'We're gonna run the ball, run the ball, then run it again, until the defense stops us,' Penn said. Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew should have ample opportunities to run the ball. However, they're going to need an effective passing game to keep eight defenders out of the box limiting their daylight. The winner of the lion's share of carries should be an RB3 with the second back a flex option.

Fantasy Impact: This isn't a huge surprise with the personnel on the team for the Raiders.
Jul 07, 04:13 PM Oakland Raiders CB Taiwan Jones is watching more film, studying playbooks and learning from teammates to get better for the upcoming season. Jones said he and the team are working harder and doing the extra work 'that you expect from a championship team.'
Jul 02, 10:33 AM Oakland Raiders LBs Miles Burris or Sio Moore could move to inside linebacker with LB Nick Roach, and either Burris or Moore would say outside with OLB Khalil Mack.
Jun 30, 05:33 PM Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry was the leading tight end in the offseason workouts, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez. Ausberry is fully recovered from the shoulder injury, which cost him the 2013 season, and he will compete with TE Mychal Rivera for targets.
Jun 30, 04:53 PM Oakland Raiders LB Khalil Mack's athleticism is drawing praise from DT Pat Sims. Sims also noted Mack can play almost any position in the front seven.
Jun 29, 04:32 PM Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) considered retiring after the 2013 season. 'For awhile, I was contemplating retirement because I just didn't feel like I had it anymore,' Jones-Drew said earlier this month. 'But that wasn't the case. My trainer helped me get back in shape and gain that foundation that I'd lost with the surgery.'

Fantasy Impact: We still aren't sure how much he has left but we should get a better idea in camp and preseason action.
Jun 25, 03:03 PM Free-agent C Andre Gurode (Raiders) reached out to the Miami Dolphins after the team updated the status of C Mike Pouncey (Hip). The team returned the call Tuesday, June 24, and will not bring him in for a visit, but did not close the door on bringing him in at some point.
Jun 23, 05:03 PM Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry could be a receiving threat this upcoming season, according to head coach Dennis Allen. Ausberry said he feels more comfortable in the offense, after missing the entire 2013 season with a shoulder injury.
Jun 23, 10:48 AM Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray seems to be the team's No. 3 running back at this point in the offseason behind RBs Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew. RB Kory Sheets has also been playing well, though. We're looking for big things from Latavius Murray right now, coming off the foot injury. He's shown, to me, the biggest upside right now in what we've seen thus far, if he can stay healthy,' offensive coordinator Greg Olson said.

Fantasy Impact: Don't discount Murray to have a big role in this offense before the season is over.
Jun 20, 05:02 PM Oakland Raiders WR Denarius Moore, CB Travis Carrie and WR Greg Jenkins are in the mix for the punt-return duties.
