| | | Pittsburgh Steelers |
OutlookThe Steelers had a very good season last year that ended in disappointment in the playoffs. Pittsburgh has the talent to repeat the 12-4 season from a year ago, so look for them to challenge for the AFC title. The offense is emerging with some young and exciting receivers leading the way. The defense remains stout and might be the best in the game right now. That combination should lead to plenty of wins for the Steelers. |
|
Isaac Redman, RB. With Rashard Mendenhall on the mend from ACL surgery, Redman should get some chances to start early in the year and could keep the job if he performs well. Mendenhall hasn't done a whole lot in recent seasons and is getting up there in age, so the job is there for the taking for Redman. He is setup for a breakout season. Redman runs with some power but also has good speed and moves in the open field. Look for him to approach his first 1,000-yard season as a pro. |
|
Mike Wallace, WR. Tough to call Wallace a dud but he doesn't get the receptions as some of the elite fantasy receivers and the emergence of Antonio Brown is going to steal targets from Wallace. This adds up to some up and down production from Wallace. He'll still have a solid season but don't expect a monster season, which is why we think he might be a dud since you'll have to act early to grab him based on reputation. |
Team Notes| May 23, 10:23 AM |
The Pittsburgh Steelers have opened talks with WR Emmanuel Sanders about a long-term deal. | | May 22, 03:33 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) said he is happy with the progress he has made in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but is not sure when he will be able to return. He said he has started to run as part of his rehab. He believes there is a chance he can be ready for the start of the regular season but will know more when training camp begins. | | May 22, 03:03 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has voiced his happiness over the direction of the team's new offense this offseason. 'There've been some changes this offseason in some of the offensive philosophies, playbook and some things that I think are good,' Roethlisberger said. 'It's some compromise from all the different position coaches, the running back coaches, the line and quarterback coaches. I think we've taken a little bit of everything and made it a lot better.' | | May 22, 02:33 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu (calf) said he believes the calf injury that forced him to miss more than half of the 2012 season could have been avoided. 'There are times when people fall on my knee, and those type of freak accidents that can't be avoided. Last year was the first injury of my career that could've been avoided,' Polamalu said. He has been dealing with calf issues since 2009, but found a physical therapist to break up the scar tissue in the calf. | | May 20, 08:43 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu will attend the team's organized team activities that start Tuesday, May 21. Polamalu is in the best shape of his NFL career.
Fantasy Impact: We'll see. He has had a hard time staying healthy the last several seasons. | | May 20, 10:12 AM |
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's chance at starting this season will be determined by how quickly he will be able to pick up the offense. If Bell struggles to learn the offense, RB Jonathan Dwyer or RB Isaac Redman could start.
Fantasy Impact: Bell seems likely to start for the Steelers and could have a big rookie season. | | May 19, 09:42 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders is projected to take over the spot of departed WR Mike Wallace (Dolphins) at split end, at least for one year.
Fantasy Impact: Sanders has obvious upside in a starting role. He could be worth some spot starts for fantasy teams. | | May 19, 09:42 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu has a history of blowing off the voluntary portion of spring drills to train with his guru, Marv Marinovich, in the Los Angeles area. Last season, Polamalu went through most of the spring practice with his teammates - and then missed nine games with injuries. It's uncertain if Polamalu will attend organized team activities (OTAs), which begin Tuesday, May 21. | | May 19, 09:42 PM |
When organized team activities (OTAs) open Tuesday, May 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have at least three new faces among the starters. LB Jason Worilds is in for the departed James Harrison (Bengals) at outside lineback, NT Steve McLendon is in for free-agent Casey Hampton at nose tackle, and CB Cortez Allen takes over for CB Keenan Lewis (Saints) at cornerback. | | May 19, 04:02 PM |
Free-agent QB Charlie Batch (Steelers) said he is not ruling out playing for a team this season. | | May 19, 03:52 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Jerricho Cotchery could have a bigger role early in the season as a possession receiver if TE Heath Miller (knee) is not ready to play. | | May 15, 03:23 PM |
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said LB Sean Spence (knee) is making slow progress in his rehab from a major knee injury. Colbert said the team hopes he will fully recover at some point. | | May 13, 06:13 PM |
The New England Patriots worked out free-agent LB Brandon Johnson (Steelers) Monday, May 13. | | May 10, 10:42 AM |
The Cincinnati Bengals have free-agent FB John Clay (Steelers) in camp on a tryout basis. | | May 08, 09:26 AM |
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones said his main goal is to simply gain an understanding of the team's offense and not one day replace QB Ben Roethlisberger as the team's starting quarterback. 'I have no idea,' Jones said. 'You might want to talk to the coaches or Mr. Rooney on that one, what they want to do. I'm just here to learn football. They give me an opportunity to come play.' General manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin insist the team did not draft Jones as the quarterback of the future but to provide a youth movement at the position. | | May 06, 02:23 PM |
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free-agent OT Guy Whimper (Jaguars) and undrafted free-agent LB Terence Garvin (West Virginia). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. |
