2014 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

San Francisco has one of the best teams in all of football. Their defense is top five and the offense is getting better and better. They are the complete package. The defense can win games all by themselves. And the offense this season could be good enough to win some games if the defense has some stumbles. For us, the 49ers are the favorite to win the NFC and make another appearance in the Super Bowl.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn't quite live up to the hype last season but did some good things along the way. He is setup for much better things this season. He can take his game to a new level, getting some weapons back healthy and some more options in the passing game to help elevate his game. Kaepernick has the skillset and surrounding talent to be a top fantasy quarterback. Plus, he should get plenty of chances offensively because the 49ers' defense will shut down plenty of opponents.
FANTASY DUD
Running back Frank Gore is another aging back that probably has played his best years. He remains the starter but has plenty of young talent pushing him for playing time. He still has touchdown and some yardage potential but his touches should be down compared to past years. It wouldn't even be a shock if Gore lost his starting job before the end of the season. There are a lot of top, young backs on this roster that are the future at the position for the 49ers.

Team Notes

Aug 20, 09:23 AM Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers DT Glenn Dorsey's two-year extension has $6.075 million in new money, $1.75 million in new incentives and $2.575 million in guarantees. The maximum value of the deal is $10.957 million through 2016.
Aug 19, 10:23 PM San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Lloyd has developed a bond with WR Anquan Boldin and is in good position to make the final 53-man roster.

Fantasy Impact: This doesn't mean that Lloyd will make much of a fantasy impact, though. He won't get a ton of playing time.
Aug 19, 08:33 PM San Francisco 49ers DT Glenn Dorsey (biceps) will have one more MRI to see how his torn bicep is healing before the team decides if he can return at some point this season.
Aug 19, 07:53 PM San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree's contract extension talks are reportedly progressing. The team hopes a deal can get done before the regular season begins.
Aug 19, 03:33 PM San Francisco 49ers OT Anthony Davis (shoulder) will do individual work in practice Tuesday, Aug. 19.
Aug 19, 11:53 AM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick said his left foot sustained a bone chip on the forefoot and a ruptured capsule on the ball in Week 2 of last season. In the following four games, he averaged fewer than 16 rushing yards per contest. The Niners tried to reduce risk for him any way possible until he was at full strength. His production on the ground increased as he healed, and San Francisco allowed him to do designed runs in the postseason.
Aug 19, 04:53 AM After another poor outing by San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert, sources indicate there has been some talk about QB Josh X. Johnson being moved to the No. 2 slot behind QB Colin Kaepernick.
Aug 17, 09:02 PM The San Francisco 49ers will determine their backup quarterback by which candidate does not turn the ball over, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. QBs Blaine Gabbert and McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw interceptions during the second preseason game, while QB Josh X. Johnson lost a fumble.
Aug 17, 07:42 PM San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't looking for backup quarterbacks outside of the organization. QBs Blaine Gabbert and Josh X. Johnson are competing for the role.

Fantasy Impact: Gabbert is a disaster right now and just fighting for his NFL life.
Aug 17, 06:22 PM San Francisco 49ers CB Kenneth Acker broke up a pass at the goal line in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 17. He intercepted two passes in a practice last week.
Aug 17, 05:02 PM Updating an earlier report, San Francisco 49ers FS Antoine Bethea (concussion) suffered a concussion in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 17.
Aug 17, 04:52 PM San Francisco 49ers FS Antoine Bethea (leg) limped off the field in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 17.
Aug 17, 02:32 AM San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (hamstring) practiced in full for the first time Friday, Aug. 15. Crabtree was 230 pounds last season when he returned from a torn Achilles', but he is at 215 in this camp.
Aug 16, 09:12 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert was booed throughout practice Friday, Aug. 15, after missing several throws. The poor practice came on the heels of a preseason debut that saw Gabbert complete just three of 11 pass attempts.

Fantasy Impact: Gabbert is in real danger of losing is roster spot. He just hasn't made any progress since entering the NFL.
Aug 16, 12:22 PM San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James (elbow) is no longer wearing a brace on his dislocated elbow and believes he is ready to play. James has participated in the last two practices with a no contact jersey and been able to take handoffs, catch passes out of the backfield and field punts. He will not play in the second preseason game but believes he can play in the final two preseason games.
Aug 15, 03:32 PM Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers LB Kion Wilson signed a one-year deal worth $450,000. There is no guaranteed money in the deal.
