2014 DRAFT GUIDE

Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

San Francisco has one of the best teams in all of football. Their defense is top five and the offense is getting better and better. They are the complete package. The defense can win games all by themselves. And the offense this season could be good enough to win some games if the defense has some stumbles. For us, the 49ers are the favorite to win the NFC and make another appearance in the Super Bowl.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn't quite live up to the hype last season but did some good things along the way. He is setup for much better things this season. He can take his game to a new level, getting some weapons back healthy and some more options in the passing game to help elevate his game. Kaepernick has the skillset and surrounding talent to be a top fantasy quarterback. Plus, he should get plenty of chances offensively because the 49ers' defense will shut down plenty of opponents.
FANTASY DUD
Running back Frank Gore is another aging back that probably has played his best years. He remains the starter but has plenty of young talent pushing him for playing time. He still has touchdown and some yardage potential but his touches should be down compared to past years. It wouldn't even be a shock if Gore lost his starting job before the end of the season. There are a lot of top, young backs on this roster that are the future at the position for the 49ers.

Team Notes

Feb 19, 05:32 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Michael Crabtree's representation is engaged in contract negotiations with the team, 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. Tomsula and general manager Trent Baalke agreed that re-signing their own talent was a priority.
Feb 19, 05:22 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Michael Crabtree and the team have begun contract talks, according to head coach Jim Tomsula. General manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday, Feb. 18, that it's a priority for the 49ers to re-sign their own talent.

Tomsula and 49ers general manager Trent Baalke agreed that re-signing their own talent was a priority.
Feb 19, 03:03 AM San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke plans to meet with the agent for free-agent WR Michael Crabtree (49ers) at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Feb 18, 08:23 PM San Francisco 49ers LBs Patrick Willis (toe) and NaVorro Bowman are expected to return next year on their current contracts, general manager Trent Baalke hinted at. Willis is scheduled to make $8.315 million, and Bowman will make $5.45 million. Willis continues to rehab his toe after having season-ending surgery and Bowman is over a year removed from a knee injury.

Feb 18, 08:13 PM San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis will return to the team next season, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Davis will make $4.95 million in the final year of his deal, but he's coming off a season in which he had just 26 catches for a measly 245 yards and two touchdowns (both in the season opener). Davis is expected to take part in the team's offseason program after skipping the mandatory minicamp last offseason.
Feb 18, 01:33 AM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Michael Crabtree was frustrated with his role at the end of last season, and he recently removed any mention of the 49ers from his Twitter bio. Some interpret that as a signal he is ready to move on to a new organization.
Feb 18, 01:33 AM San Francisco 49ers WR Stevie Johnson might be a clear starting candidate for the 2015 season if impending free-agents WR Anquan Boldin and/or WR Michael Crabtree are not brought back. Johnson stands to count a little more than $6 million against the salary cap. It is unknown if the team feels that cost is too steep.
Feb 17, 01:33 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent WR Michael Crabtree, who made $4 million last year, is unlikely to receive the franchise tag after his production was disappointing in 2014. The Niners are also unlikely to offer him a multi-year deal that surpasses that of WR Anquan Boldin's $6 million-a-year average.
Feb 17, 01:33 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent CBs Perrish Cox and Chris Culliver are wanted back by the team, and the Niners are expected to make a push to re-sign both before the opening of free agency March 10.

Feb 17, 01:33 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent OG Mike Iupati is expected to attract plenty of attention on the open market this year. He averaged $3.296 million in his first five NFL seasons, and he's in line for a significant raise. However, it would likely cost the Niners more than $12.5 million to keep him around on a franchise tag, which makes that unlikely. San Fran doesn't want to pay a guard more than an offensive tackle, and they signed OT Anthony Davis to a deal that will pay him $6.5 million on average through the 2019 season. The Niners last used the franchise tag on S Dashon Goldson in 2012.
Feb 17, 01:23 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Frank Gore could re-sign with the club, but the Niners have zero interest in using the $10 million-plus franchise tag on an aging running back.

Fantasy Impact: Gore should find work soon, likely moving to a platoon situation.
Feb 16, 02:53 PM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Frank Gore still isn't sure if team management wants him back for next season. 'If they want to bring me back, they will,' Gore said. 'We'll sit down; see what they want me to do. See what my role is and if I like it, I'll sign. If I don't, I'll try to see what other teams think of me.'
Feb 16, 09:13 AM San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Frank Gore wants to land in a situation where he can have another 1,000-yard season and a chance to win the Super Bowl, according to sources.
