2015 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

The 49ers were a disappointment last year and parted ways with coach Jim Harbaugh. The team still has a lot of talent, though, and should challenge for a playoff spot. The division is very good, which is a concern for the 49ers. San Francisco has a very good defense but the offense remains the concern. If the offense can play more consistently, most notably Kaepernick, the 49ers can return to the playoffs and challenge for the division crown. But if the offense has more issues, expect San Francisco to miss out on the playoffs.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Frank Gore is gone, making second-year back Carlos Hyde the starter for the 49ers. He didnā??t get a ton of chances as a rookie but made some plays with his work. A much bigger workload should lead to good things for Hyde. He is a three-down back that will get better as he gets more touches. Hyde can be a fantasy star in this league, getting plenty of touches in an offense that should feed the running back plenty.
FANTASY DUD
You keep waiting for quarterback Colin Kaepernick to have that breakout. Well, it hasnā??t happened to this point, so donā??t expect a sudden turnaround. Heā??ll show flashes of good things and have some big games but struggle in others. He is what he is, a fantasy backup worthy of some spot starts. Donā??t expect him to suddenly become a superstar and elite fantasy quarterback. He brings good things to the table but a lack of accuracy and poor decision making keep holding him back.

Team Notes

Jun 25, 02:32 PM San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde has shed about 10 pounds from last year's playing weight, which should add to his deceptively light feet and cutting ability. The team is installing zone-blocking concepts, which worked well for Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris when offensive line coach Chris Foerster was in Washington.
Jun 20, 01:42 PM San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton has been flashy this offseason and will have a real opportunity to prove himself this year, according to wide receivers coach Ronald Curry.
Jun 14, 09:52 AM San Francisco 49ers SS Jimmie Ward (foot) said he should be ready for the start of training camp.
Jun 09, 03:33 PM San Francisco 49ers DT Darnell Dockett (knee) said he is ahead of schedule in his recovery and will be ready for the regular season opener. Dockett is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Jun 06, 02:32 PM San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (leg) returned to organized team activities Friday, June 5, after nursing a minor leg injury.
Jun 05, 05:12 PM San Francisco 49ers OT Anthony Davis announced his retirement from professional football Friday, June 5.

Fantasy Impact: This is a big loss for the offensive line. Davis will be missed.
Jun 04, 02:42 PM San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (knee) has looked good during organized team activities, but the team has limited his reps during practice, according to head coach Jim Tomsula. 'I think we all have strong feelings for Kendall. He is, you see him out there moving. He's moving around great. But we definitely have a rep count on him. There's a rep count on all of those guys. You've got to keep him corralled. But he's moving around really quick,' Tomsula said.
May 31, 11:32 PM San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush said he has been used in a variety of ways on offense, and he added that he likes what he has seen out of offensive coordinator Geep Chryst.
May 31, 09:52 AM San Francisco 49ers CB Tramaine Brock (hamstring) has been limited during organized team activities because of what is believed to be a hamstring injury. Brock is expected to be one of the starting cornerbacks this upcoming season.
May 30, 10:22 AM San Francisco 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman (knee) has been participating in organized team activities but said his knee does not feel like it did before the injury at this point. Bowman has been wearing a brace on his knee but said it limits his quickness and mobility.
May 30, 12:42 AM San Francisco 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman (knee) said Friday, May 29, that there is 'no doubt' he will return to his pre-injury form, and he acknowledged that the mental side of his rehab has been as tough as the physical side.
May 26, 06:13 PM San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton is feeling much better this offseason than he has in previous seasons, largely because of working out with QB Colin Kaepernick this offseason. 'It's benefitted me knowing we're throwing the ball together and he's telling me what he's seeing and I'm telling him what I'm seeing, and just knowing where to be and when I need to be there,' Patton said.
May 23, 11:02 PM San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith was a featured part of the offense during practice Thursday, May 21, connecting with QB Colin Kaepernick on several plays and catching a touchdown from QB Blaine Gabbert in the red zone.
