2014 DRAFT GUIDE
Team Grade:
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterbacks: Running Backs:
Wide Receivers: Tight Ends:
Defense: Kickers:

Outlook

San Francisco has one of the best teams in all of football. Their defense is top five and the offense is getting better and better. They are the complete package. The defense can win games all by themselves. And the offense this season could be good enough to win some games if the defense has some stumbles. For us, the 49ers are the favorite to win the NFC and make another appearance in the Super Bowl.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn't quite live up to the hype last season but did some good things along the way. He is setup for much better things this season. He can take his game to a new level, getting some weapons back healthy and some more options in the passing game to help elevate his game. Kaepernick has the skillset and surrounding talent to be a top fantasy quarterback. Plus, he should get plenty of chances offensively because the 49ers' defense will shut down plenty of opponents.
FANTASY DUD
Running back Frank Gore is another aging back that probably has played his best years. He remains the starter but has plenty of young talent pushing him for playing time. He still has touchdown and some yardage potential but his touches should be down compared to past years. It wouldn't even be a shock if Gore lost his starting job before the end of the season. There are a lot of top, young backs on this roster that are the future at the position for the 49ers.

Team Notes

Jan 22, 10:12 PM San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Tony Sparano tutored Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten in his first two years in the NFL, and ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez believes TE Vernon Davis could benefit from having Sparano as a position coach.
Jan 22, 06:22 PM San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had just two touchdowns in 2014, and they both came in Week 1. He also wasn't targeted at all in the red zone after the opening weekend of the regular season after catching 13 TDs in 2013. The Niners and Davis hope that the hiring of Tony Sparano as the new tight ends coach can fix that heading into 2015. San Fran tight ends combined for just 39 catches for 423 yards (10.9 yards per catch) in 2014.

Fantasy Impact: Davis is a good bounce-back candidate for the 49ers, getting a new regime to get him more involved in the offense.
Jan 09, 03:22 PM San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis' roster spot for 2015 could be in jeopardy, because he is scheduled to make $4.95 million next season.
Jan 09, 01:12 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has enlisted the help of former QB Kurt Warner this offseason in order to help him develop as a pocket passer. "He's gotten by on athleticism, and he's made some great plays and had some great games. But I think the goal is in the time that I'm going to have with him is just to see where he's at and what he knows about the position and how far we can push the envelope as far as helping him develop as a pocket passer,' Warner said. Kaepernick ranked 20th in the league with a career-low 86.4 passer rating this season.
Jan 07, 12:33 AM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will train in the Phoenix area at EXOS performance where he will study with former NFL QB Kurt Warner and quarterback coach Dennis Gile during the offseason. Warner will work with Kaepernick on film study and 7-on-7 drills.

Fantasy Impact: This is good news for Kaepernick, who could learn a lot from Warner.

Dec 29, 04:32 AM With Jim Harbaugh expected to take the University of Michigan head coaching job, the Oakland Raiders may look at Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio as a possible head coaching candidate.
