Outlook

The 49ers were a disappointment last year and parted ways with coach Jim Harbaugh. The team still has a lot of talent, though, and should challenge for a playoff spot. The division is very good, which is a concern for the 49ers. San Francisco has a very good defense but the offense remains the concern. If the offense can play more consistently, most notably Kaepernick, the 49ers can return to the playoffs and challenge for the division crown. But if the offense has more issues, expect San Francisco to miss out on the playoffs.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
Frank Gore is gone, making second-year back Carlos Hyde the starter for the 49ers. He didnā??t get a ton of chances as a rookie but made some plays with his work. A much bigger workload should lead to good things for Hyde. He is a three-down back that will get better as he gets more touches. Hyde can be a fantasy star in this league, getting plenty of touches in an offense that should feed the running back plenty.
FANTASY DUD
You keep waiting for quarterback Colin Kaepernick to have that breakout. Well, it hasnā??t happened to this point, so donā??t expect a sudden turnaround. Heā??ll show flashes of good things and have some big games but struggle in others. He is what he is, a fantasy backup worthy of some spot starts. Donā??t expect him to suddenly become a superstar and elite fantasy quarterback. He brings good things to the table but a lack of accuracy and poor decision making keep holding him back.

Team Notes

May 02, 10:53 AM San Francisco 49ers FS Eric Reid had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 2.
Apr 29, 06:03 PM San Francisco 49ers OG Joshua Garnett played left guard at Stanford and is expected to be the starting left guard as a rookie because he was a first-round choice. OG Zane Beadles has been working at left guard during offseason workouts but likely will not win the job.
Apr 28, 11:33 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford are unlikely to be pursued by the Denver Broncos after the team selected QB Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, but Denver could still add a veteran quarterback at some point.
Apr 27, 11:03 PM San Francisco 49ers OT Anthony Davis, who announced his retirement but hasn't filed official paperwork with the league, posted on his official Twitter account Wednesday, April 27, that he does not 'want to work with a front office or anyone else who seemingly doesn't want to win as bad as I do.'
Apr 27, 04:23 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not expected to be traded to the Denver Broncos by Sunday, May 1, as there have been no talks of late.
Apr 27, 02:43 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is likely to be acquired by the Denver Broncos, in the opinion of ESPN analyst, and former NFL executive, Mark Dominik. Dominik said Wednesday, April 27, on ESPN's Russillo and Kanell, that when Kaepernick met with Broncos team president John Elway, the parameters of a deal and a contract were likely mapped out. Dominik said it didn't benefit the 49ers to let Kaepernick visit the Broncos if a deal wasn't going to happen. Dominik opined that he thinks a trade could happen Friday, April 29, or Saturday, April 30, because the 49ers are likely set on drafting a quarterback in the first three rounds.
Apr 27, 12:33 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, thumb, knee) is attending the team's voluntary minicamp this week but hasn't resume throwing.
Apr 27, 11:13 AM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick could still be traded this week, according to general manager Trent Baalke.
Apr 24, 01:43 PM Free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (49ers) could be sought back by the San Francisco 49ers if head coach Chip Kelly is unimpressed with the wide receivers' performances this week at minicamp.
Apr 21, 02:33 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's trade discussions with the Denver Broncos are dormant, according to Broncos president John Elway.
Apr 20, 11:13 PM Retired OT Anthony Davis and San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke have not had any in-person discussion, although the two have exchanged text messages. Davis has not yet applied for reinstatement after retiring from the league last year. 'I'm not going to get into our conversations within the media,' Baalke said. 'We've had several text messages back and forth and that's the extent of the conversations.'
Apr 20, 11:13 PM San Francisco 49ers FS Eric Reid will either have his fifth-year option picked up, or he will be signed to an extension, general manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday, April 20. 'We're definitely looking at both options,' Baalke said. 'If we could get something done longer, we'll look at that.'
Apr 20, 11:13 PM San Francisco 49ers DT Glenn Dorsey (knee) is making 'great progress,' according to general manager Trent Baalke, as the defensive tackle makes his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, it is too soon to say if he'll be ready for the regular season opener. 'I'm never going to give a definitive because you don't know,' Baalke said. 'You could always have a setback, but right now he's made great progress. Looks good.'
Apr 20, 04:33 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick may still be traded this offseason, according to general manager Treny Baalke. Baalke said he would never say never in regards to a trade, but he does not want to package Kaepernick as part of a trade. Baalke added that the 49ers still want Kaepernick on the roster, but he has not completely ruled out trading the quarterback.
Apr 14, 09:13 PM Free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (49ers) said he is in no rush to sign a new deal, but he is staying in shape for whenever the right situation presents itself. 'I'm taking my time right now,' Boldin said. 'It's the first time in 13 years I've been a free agent, so I get to pick where I want to go now,' Bolding said. 'I'm definitely going to take my time and make the best decision for me and my family.'
Apr 14, 04:43 PM San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert could be a reclamation project of new head coach Chip Kelly this season. Kelly is supposedly more attracted to the idea of making Gabbert better than drafting a quarterback, according to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.
