Outlook

The Bucs are an organization that seems to be trending the right way with Lovie Smith at the helm. But for this season, don't expect great things just yet. They'll have a hard time getting to .500. The defense still has plenty of holes and the quarterback situation is a concern. Until a franchise quarterback emerges for this team, the Bucs might struggle to make the playoffs.
FANTASY BREAKOUT
He probably shouldn't be a considered a breakout candidate because he already had a big season but last year was a big disappointment for running back Doug Martin. He battled injury and didn't do much even when he was playing. But the Bucs were a mess as a team and the offensive line didn't help matters for him. Martin gets a fresh start with a new coaching staff and what should be an improved offensive line. Martin is going to get a bunch of work in this offense, similar to what Matt Forte got when Lovie Smith was his coach. We look for Martin to get back to his big producing ways, making him a great buy-low candidate for fantasy teams.
FANTASY DUD
Quarterback Josh McCown had a career season last year, getting a chance to start because of injury and producing big numbers in the process. He revived his career and got a big contract this offseason with a chance to start in Tampa. McCown has some talent to work with in Tampa but his track record doesn't show he'll continue his recent success and while the talent is solid in Tampa, it isn't as good as it was in Chicago. He'll just have a hard time matching his success from past season. It wouldn't surprise to see Mike Glennon take over as starter at some point during the season.

Jul 10, 01:52 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (foot) said he expects to be ready for training camp. 'I feel really good. My foot feels really good,' Seferian-Jenkins said Wednesday from Arizona, where he's been training. 'I've been running route, doing all the exercise and workout drills that they've asked me to do. I feel very comfortable and confident that I'll be ready to go when it comes to training camp.'
Jul 08, 02:53 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins wants to show his commitment to his teammates in training camp. I want to prove to the veterans that I care. I want to prove to the veterans that I know that they're older guys and they've figured it out, and I'm not going to be some rookie that's going to come around, messing around, and doing all this other stuff.
Jul 08, 02:53 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans said he wants to come into training camp and develop a good relationship with QB Josh McCown and prove that he deserves to be a starter in the NFL. In training camp I want to prove that I deserve to be a starter on the team and I want to create a great relationship with Josh [McCown], Evans said.
Jul 07, 10:13 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson and WR Mike Evans are expected to open the year as the starters, and WR Robert Herron, WR Chris Owusu and WR Louis Murphy are the frontrunners for the remaining spots, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. Smith also tabbed WR David Gettis as a player that could surprise and make the 53-man roster.

Jul 03, 10:22 AM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) is working out with Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall in Miami and said he has no lingering issues from a hamstring injury. He also said he needs to drop 7 to 10 pounds. 'Physically, I'm not in tip-top shape. I'm getting back into my game shape,' said Evans. 'As far as injury-wise, I feel good. I've been running, and I feel 100 percent. I've got to lose more weight. I'm too heavy right now. But the workouts I've been doing, I'll be fine. I'll be ready.'
Jun 30, 05:12 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jonathan Casillas said QB Josh McCown reminds him of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, who Casillas played with when he was with the Saints from 2009 to 2012. 'It's a strong comparison, but he reminds me of Drew (Brees), not just the way he throws the ball, but his approach to the game. The first one in, the last one out, he's always around. He's very communicable, very personable. And you can tell he's a born leader,' Casillas said.
Jun 28, 04:42 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Robert Herron has made several standout plays in OTAs and minicamp practices. He displayed good body control and concentration on several leaping catches. He has worked with wide receiver coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker on releasing from the line of scrimmage and could make an impact in the future.
Jun 28, 04:32 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Owusu has impressed in organized team activities and minicamp practices. He earned the praise from head coach Lovie Smith multiple times.
Jun 28, 04:32 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Louis Murphy performed at a high level during organized team activities and minicamp practices. He spent a lot of time with the first-team offense with WRs Vincent Jackson (hamstring) and WR Mike Evans (hamstring) missing time with injuries.
Jun 26, 04:52 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh McCown was praised for his leadership skills by Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald and McCown were teammates in 2003-04.
Jun 23, 06:23 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Alterraun Verner expects to be a good fit in head coach Lovie Smith's Cover 2 defense, especially pertaining to generating turnovers. Creating takeaways is a priority in Verner's game. 'I'm disappointed in any game where I don't find a way to hit the football,' Verner said.
