SUMMARY
Tight End Rank: #43
Overall: #290

Shockey had a decent season for the Saints last year, but started to lose playing time at tight end to Jimmy Graham, which made him expendable during the offseason. The Saints let him go, watching Shockey sign a new deal with the Panthers. Shockey should be the No. 1 tight end in Carolina from day one this season. Shockey has at least 40 receptions for 400 yards every season in the NFL. His reception numbers have decreased each of the past three seasons and at age 31 (when season starts), Shockey's best days are likely behind him. He has endured several injuries through the years and finally seems to be slowing down. Shockey still has some upside, though, especially as a pass catcher. Shockey is a big, athletic tight end with decent speed. He has good hands and will make the tough catch.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Shockey is not an elite option at tight end. His numbers have never been off the charts, and he is an injury risk. A move to Carolina won't help his stats much - if any. He might get 500 yards and a few scores if the Panthers get decent quarterback play.
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said he is not ruling out the possibility of the team re-signing free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey at some point.

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) said he wants an apology from the NFL and former DL Warren Sapp over Sapp's comments regarding Shockey as the 'snitch' in the New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal. Shockey has been meeting with legal and business advisors and has not ruled out taking legal action if Sapp and the league do not apologize.

Drew Rosenhaus, agent for free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers), said he has had talks with the Carolina Panthers about Shockey but he does not expect Shockey to re-sign with the team.

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) is the whistle-blower who alerted the league to the New Orleans Saints' bounty program, according to NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp. Sapp said he did not receive his information from anyone at the league, but from a trusted source close to the situation. Shockey adamantly denied the charge.
Fantasy Impact: You never know what will come of this but just the implication of this can't be good for his chances to find work this coming season.

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) reportedly would like to return to the New York Giants, which is the team he started his NFL career with. The Giants, however, are not interested. A source with knowledge of the situation noted that there isn't anything going on with the Giants and a potential reunion of the two. Shockey, 31, has seen his production fade and reportedly was considering retirement earlier this year.

Updating a previous item, the New York Giants are reportedly not interested in signing free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers). Shockey has told the team he'd accept a veteran-minimum salary ($925,000), but that didn't get him anywhere.

Free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey (Panthers) has let the New York Giants know he would like to return to the team.
Fantasy Impact: It didn't end well for Shockey in New York so we can't see him returning.

The Carolina Panthers likely will not be interested in re-signing impending free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey to the $4 million salary he earned this season.

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said impending free-agent TE Jeremy Shockey mentioned the possibility of retirement when the two had a conversation after the season. Rivera said he is not sure if Shockey will play next season.
Fantasy Impact: Shockey has battled various injuries throughout his career so it wouldn't be a huge shock to see him hang it up at this point.
