Summary

Tight End Rank: #193All Players: #1193
Shiancoe shared time more last season at tight end but still produced decent numbers. He caught 36 passes, his lowest total in recent seasons, but his numbers remained solid enough for his role. He caught at least 27 passes in five seasons with the Vikings. At this point of his career, Shiancoe is more of a backup than starter but can do well in spot duty as a pass catcher. Shiancoe is a big target with pretty good speed and decent hands. He also is a solid blocker, which is a plus for the running game. He was once a top red-zone target but has just five touchdowns the last two seasons.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Shiancoe isn't near the option of past years but might help as a deep backup for fantasy teams. His numbers should be down again but he could get 300 or so yards and a few scores in a reserve role.

New England Patriots TEs Rob Gronkowski (forearm) and Aaron Hernandez (ankle) play two different positions within the team's offense. There is the traditional 'Y' position, who is 6-foot-5 or taller, at least 255 pounds, can run but absolutely must be a standout blocker. He has to be a viable receiver, but not a great one. There is also the 'F' or flex tight end, who is 6-foot-3 or taller, around 235 pounds, must be able to run and be an excellent pass receiver. He does not need to be a good blocker. If the team wants to stick with that system while Gronkowski is out, TEs Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells could fill Gronkowski's 'Y' position, while Hernandez and TE Visanthe Shiancoe would serve as the flex tight ends.

New England Patriots TE Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) and DL Myron Pryor (pectoral) are both eligible to return to practice this week, but head coach Bill Belichick is still determining if either player will be healthy enough to be active in Week 7. However, Shiancoe, per the league's new rules, can't be activated for the active roster until Week 8. TE Michael Hoomanawanui will likely be cut to make room for Shiancoe.
