Quarterback Rank: #10 Overall: #54
Cutler had a breakout season as the Broncos became a pass-first team with all sorts of injuries at running back. Cutler responded with his first 4,000-yard season as a pro and a career-high 27 total touchdowns. But a feud with the Broncos new coach led to a trade demand, which landed him in Chicago. He goes from one of the best offenses in the league to one of the worst. He has suspect and unproven options at receiver. The Bears also are more of a run-first team. Cutler has a rocket for an arm and his accuracy continues to improve. Plus, he slides around the pocket well and can make some plays with his legs.

Cutler will regret his trade demand. He won't near last year's numbers in this offense. He still has some potential because of his ability, but consider him more of a low-end No. 1 than a top option. He could get 3,500 yards and around 20 touchdowns. |

The Associated Press reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, making his preseason debut with the Bears, was inconsistent Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Buffalo Bills. Cutler went 5-of-10 passing for 64 yards with an interception, which came on a poorly under thrown pass. He almost threw another interception, but the defensive back dropped the ball. Cutler said it is too early to panic and he feels fine. He also noted starting RB Matt Forte and starting TE Greg Olsen were rested.
Fantasy Impact: Don't get too worked up over a game, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Cutler take a step backwards from the past few seasons. He just doesn't have the weapons in Chicago.

Bob LeGere, of the Daily Herald, reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he would like to have input on which players make the final roster. 'I think they're definitely going to ask me. If they don't ask me, I'm going to tell them what I think because I've got to be the one throwing to them on game day, and I've got to trust them. But [offensive coordinator Ron Turner] and I have been on the same page since the start of training camp in what guys we wanted to see working in with me and what guys have stepped up and what direction we want to go with this group,' Cutler said.

Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports the longer the Chicago Bears wait to rework the contract of QB Jay Cutler, the more expensive it may be for them. The Bears have more than $17.5 million in salary cap room available at this time, and signing Cutler to a new deal now would allow them to apply a portion of it to this year's salary cap. Cutler is under contract through 2011, but has a $12 million roster bonus due in his final year of the deal. The Bears are already committed to him long term after giving up a lot to acquire him, so tacking on more years to the deal now makes sense. If they wait and other quarterbacks receive new deals, it could only push the price up. Furthermore, if they go into 2009 with his current deal in place and are successful, his asking price could go up, too.

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has worked very hard in the classroom this offseason to pick up the team's system. Not only has he been able to grasp it, he is also able to execute the offense on the field. Some of the verbiage and reads in the offense are the same as they were with the Denver Broncos, allowing him to pick things up quicker. Quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton has been impressed with his arm strength.
