Summary

Quarterback Rank: #59
Overall: #332

Smith started the year playing exclusively out of the Wild Cat formation as a quarterback but eventually found his way into the starting lineup as a receiver. He started five games at receiver and caught 23 passes for 240 yards. These were the second highest totals of his career. It was just the second time in six seasons he topped 200-receiving yards in a season. He did run in a score last season, though, and has 100-plus rushing yards four years in the league and rushing scores three straight seasons. He isn't likely to get many starts at receiver again this season but will be used in a variety of ways as a receiver, running back, quarterback and return man. Smith is a jack of all trades and a playmaker. He is a top athlete that can play several positions and does them all pretty well. He is a big-play threat every time he touches the ball.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Smith will get some total yards, but it will be tough to predict when those games will come, which makes him a risk. He might be worth a late flier in deeper leagues. He isn't likely getting enough total yards to help many fantasy teams, though.

Notes

Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith averaged 3.7 touches per game last season, counting snaps as quarterback, receiver and kickoff returner. Head coach Chan Gailey said Smith's role should expand in 2012. 'I see him as a three-headed monster. Wildcat. Receiver. Special teams. I see him being all three of those and when he walks out there on the field they're not sure what's going to happen,' Gailey said.
Fantasy Impact: It makes sense to get Smith more touches. He makes plays. Smith still won't be a huge fantasy option.

The possibility of using Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith more in the Wildcat formation is intriguing to new quarterbacks coach David Lee, who brought the Wildcat to the NFL while with the Miami Dolphins. 'He did a great job with the Jets when he was there,' Lee said of Smith. 'The exciting thing to me about it is ... that he can throw so much better than Ronnie Brown could.'
Fantasy Impact: Smith was supposed to play exclusively at quarterback this past season but was at receiver much of the year. We wouldn't expect a big change in that for 2012.

Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach David Lee said he believes the team will be able to use WR Brad Smith in different ways next season because of his ability to throw the ball as well as running the ball. 'Brad gives us more dimensions. We have some things that we have in mind and that's yet to be finalized as to what we'll do. But there are some things that we've done that may suit Brad Smith,' Lee said.

Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix indicated the team will use WR Brad Smith at quarterback and wide receiver as well as special teams next season as they did this season. Smith could have a bigger impact on the offense next season because he will have a full offseason to learn the offense.

Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith has become the team's No. 2 receiver behind WR Stevie Johnson. Smith caught four passes for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against the New York Jets.
Fantasy Impact: Smith goes from playing as a quarterback primarily out of the wildcat formation to starting at receiver. He still has very limited value even in a starting role.
