Running Back Rank: #1 Overall: #1
Peterson rushed for the lowest total of his career last season, but still finished the year with 1,639 total yards and 13 touchdowns. He had just three 100-yard games, which is a low total for him, but still averaged an impressive 4.6 yards per carry. Peterson also did a much better job of protecting the ball after having some fumbling issues the last few seasons. Peterson lost just one fumble all last season. He did battle knee and ankle injuries, which cut into his playing time. Peterson missed a game for just the third time in his career. The Vikings lack of a passing attack didn't help matters for Peterson, who faced a lot of stacked boxes throughout the year. The good news is Peterson has double-digit touchdowns every year in the NFL and at least 1,600 total yards every season. The Vikings have quarterback issues, but the offense should revolve around Peterson. Minnesota still has a top offensive line, making the running game a strength of the team. Peterson is as explosive as any back in the game. He can run over tacklers but also has great speed to break a big play every time he touches the ball. Peterson also is an improving receiver, catching 79 passes the last two seasons.

| Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team will remain committed to the run game despite the absence of RB Adrian Peterson (knee). Even if Peterson misses time at the start of the 2012 season, the Vikings will not alter their offense with RB Toby Gerhart in the mix. 'One of things about Adrian's absence earlier in the season, we had a chance to get Toby some extended snaps and we really haven't altered the offense by any means,' Frazier said. 'Toby has done a very good job in Adrian's absence. Did a great job of stepping in and performing and rushing for over 100 yards. So we really haven't had to alter things. We really don't plan to. We look forward to eventually getting Adrian back on the field, but we don't think we have to really alter the offense.' |
