SUMMARY
Running Back Rank: #1
Overall: #1

Peterson rushed for the lowest total of his career last season, but still finished the year with 1,639 total yards and 13 touchdowns. He had just three 100-yard games, which is a low total for him, but still averaged an impressive 4.6 yards per carry. Peterson also did a much better job of protecting the ball after having some fumbling issues the last few seasons. Peterson lost just one fumble all last season. He did battle knee and ankle injuries, which cut into his playing time. Peterson missed a game for just the third time in his career. The Vikings lack of a passing attack didn't help matters for Peterson, who faced a lot of stacked boxes throughout the year. The good news is Peterson has double-digit touchdowns every year in the NFL and at least 1,600 total yards every season. The Vikings have quarterback issues, but the offense should revolve around Peterson. Minnesota still has a top offensive line, making the running game a strength of the team. Peterson is as explosive as any back in the game. He can run over tacklers but also has great speed to break a big play every time he touches the ball. Peterson also is an improving receiver, catching 79 passes the last two seasons.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Peterson had a down year last year and was still among the top backs in all of football. He can get better next season. Peterson is as consistent as any back in the game. You can pencil him in for double-digit touchdowns and around 1,800 total yards. He is a top-three pick for this coming season. You can make a case for him being the top overall pick.
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said via Twitter that he was looking to change his jersey number from 28 to either 23 or 21. However, the cost to do so would have been too expensive. Peterson would have to purchase all No. 28 jerseys that have been produced.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Senior Bowl that he's hopeful RB Adrian Peterson (knee) will make it back from his torn anterior cruciate ligament for the beginning of the 2012 season. He said that's the goal both Peterson and the team have set. Frazier said Peterson isn't quite ready to start running in the pool, but it's getting closer to that point.
Fantasy Impact: He has a long road back but don't rule him out for the start of the season.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team has to be conscious of some of the running back prospects at the Senior Bowl and in the NFL Draft because of the late season injuries to RBs Adrian Peterson (knee) and Toby Gerhart (knee), though Frazier didn't deem Gerhart's injury as serious.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) underwent surgery Friday, Dec. 30, and has begun to rehab, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. 'He's back in town now, as you can imagine, going 100 mph with the rehab, doing a good job, and so far, so good,' Frazier said of Peterson. 'There are some benchmarks that he'll have to hit along the way, but at this point, everything is moving in the right direction.'

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said the team will remain committed to the run game despite the absence of RB Adrian Peterson (knee). Even if Peterson misses time at the start of the 2012 season, the Vikings will not alter their offense with RB Toby Gerhart in the mix. 'One of things about Adrian's absence earlier in the season, we had a chance to get Toby some extended snaps and we really haven't altered the offense by any means,' Frazier said. 'Toby has done a very good job in Adrian's absence. Did a great job of stepping in and performing and rushing for over 100 yards. So we really haven't had to alter things. We really don't plan to. We look forward to eventually getting Adrian back on the field, but we don't think we have to really alter the offense.'
