Wide Receiver Rank: #56 Overall: #191
Bennett was active for 10 games his rookie season but finished without a single catch. The Bears feel he'll be a factor in their passing game, though, maybe even as soon as this season. Bennett isn't a speed guy, but has some quickness and is a solid possession receiver. He could compete for the No. 2 receiver spot this season in a passing offense that should be improved with Jay Cutler at the helm.

The Bears passing game should be improved, which helps Bennett's value. He could be a good guy to nab in PPR leagues if he lands the starting job opposite Devin Hester. Bennett has some sleeper potential his second season in the league. He could get 700 or 800 yards. |

Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo hasn't ruled out signing a veteran wide receiver. However, because of his comments during a radio show on Mulley and Hanley on 670-AM, it seems unlikely. The Bears drafted three receivers - Juaquin Iglesias (third round), Johnny Knox (fifth) and Derek Kinder (seventh) - and Angelo is counting on WR Earl Bennett to emerge. Angelo said he told head coach Lovie Smith he feels good about the three rookies and doesn't feel near the need to go out and add a receiver post-draft as he did before it.

Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said second-year WR Earl Bennett is a 'very bright person.' Angelo said Bennett had to learn three receiver positions last year as a rookie because he was a backup. 'That is where the learning came in,' Angelo said. 'I thought he got a little bit of a bad rap in that he struggles to learn. No. If we just gave him one position, he would have been off and running.' Angelo, as just reported, is counting on Bennett to emerge in 2009. 'I am expecting Earl to be a very good player for us,' Angelo noted.

Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears second-year WR Earl Bennett is working with WR Devin Hester as the team's starting receivers during minicamp. Bennett said he had perfect timing with QB Kyle Orton during practice Tuesday, March 17. He noted he feels like he improved a lot from his first year and is doing much better getting out of his routes. 'I know [a starting job] is not going to be given to me, so I have to work hard and be consistent every day,' Bennett said.
Fantasy Impact: Bennett is the favorite to start right now, but there is a lot of time between now and the start of the season. He'll need to prove he has earned that job.
