SUMMARY
Wide Receiver Rank: #82
Overall: #240

Heyward-Bey was the first receiver taken in this year's draft. He was taken more so for his ability and upside than his production on the field. Heyward-Bey was the fastest receiver at the combine, which made owner Al Davis make him their player. Davis loves speed. Heyward-Bey will be an immediate deep threat for the Raiders, but still needs a lot of work in other areas of his game. He is a great straight-line runner, but lacks polish on other routes and his hands can be suspect at times. Heyward-Bey is a bit of a project, but should get immediate playing time and challenge to start as the Raiders lack quality options at receiver.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Heyward-Bey is a big-play threat, so he'll have some big numbers. But he'll also disappear some weeks if he doesn't make a big play. He won't too much else in the passing game. Consider him a reserve player for fantasy teams worthy of some spot starts in the right matchup.
Jerry McDonald, of the Oakland Tribune, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said WR Darrius Heyward-Bey showed some signs of improvement in Week 7. Although Heyward-Bey caught only two passes for 28 yards in the game and missed an opportunity for his first touchdown, Cable said Heyward-Bey has been doing a better job of getting open. 'This may have been a better game for him in terms of getting himself in position to get open against a very, very good player, and that will only help him down the road. I'd really hope for him to catch that fade route there near the end. He just kind of mistimed his jump a little bit.'

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders rookie WR Darrius Heyward-Bey was listed as a starter at wide receiver on the team's initial depth chart. He was joined by WR Chaz Schilens. WRs Johnnie Lee Higgins and Louis Murphy were the top reserves.
Fantasy Impact: It is kind of a surprise to see Heyward-Bey a starter, but Al Davis could be behind this.
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (toe) had a strong practice session Monday, Aug. 10, after returning from a toe injury.

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders rookie WR Darrius Heyward-Bey was the target of 16 passes during practice Tuesday, Aug. 4, and he had 14 receptions. He had a one-handed snag near the sidelines. One of his misses was a low pass, and another could have been a pass interference.
Fantasy Impact: Good news for Heyward-Bey, who had kind of a rough start to camp. It is encouraging to hear he is making strides.

David White, of The San Francisco Chronicle, reports Oakland Raiders managing general partner Al Davis noticed the drops by rookie WR Darrius Heyward-Bey during practice Sunday, Aug. 2. Davis, Heyward-Bey and his position coach all met after practice. Drops were a knock on Heyward-Bey during college, and so far he has done nothing to dispute that reputation since joining the Raiders.
Fantasy Impact: Sounds like Heyward-Bey is off to a great start in camp. Ouch. He could have some big plays this season, but will be inconsistent for fantasy teams.

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders rookie WR Darrius Heyward-Bey said his previous hamstring injury is behind him and he is ready to go for training camp. After signing his contract Thursday, July 30, Heyward-Bey joined the team on the field. He streaked down the left side of the field 35 yards and a somewhat wobbly pass from QB Charlie Frye landed in Heyward-Bey's hands before clanking to the ground. Heyward-Bey took blame for it, noting he hadn't been given the chance to catch any passes before that one. 'Just the first day, getting out there right after the warmup. Things happen,' he said.
