SUMMARY
The Bills had a middle of the pack defense last season. They had so-so numbers across the board, but if they excelled in one area it was touchdowns. The Bills scored five defensive/special teams touchdowns last season. Their defense is led by linebacker Paul Posluszny. He just makes plays, totaling more than 100 tackles his first full season in the league. The Bills need a healthy and productive Aaron Schobel, though, if this defense gets better this season. Schobel is their best pass rusher and needs to return to past form. Tackle Marcus Stroud does a good job stuffing the run. The Bills have some playmakers in the secondary, but these guys also will give up some big plays. Terrance McGee and Leodis McKelvin are solid corners that will take some chances and make big plays. The Bill have a great return game, scoring two return touchdowns last season. Roscoe Parrish remains one of the top punt return men in the game, averaging 15.3 yards per return last season. McKelvin does the damage on kick returns, averaging a robust 28.2 yards per return last season.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
The Bills are a good option in straight touchdown leagues, but for leagues that penalize for yards and points scored, they are an iffy option. Buffalo will get some sacks and interceptions, though, making them worth a look as a platoon defense. They have some upside in the right matchups.
CBSSports.com reports the Buffalo Bills have no plans to move DL Aaron Maybin to linebacker, even though injuries have decimated the position. Maybin was considered by some to be a possible linebacker prospect before the NFL Draft, although he is a better fit at defensive end in the team's defensive scheme.

The Associated Press reports former NFL LB LaVar Arrington, publicist for Buffalo Bills first-round draft choice DE Aaron Maybin, said the reason the Bills and Maybin have not agreed to a contract is because San Francisco 49ers first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree, who was selected right before Maybin, continues to hold out. 'This Crabtree kid is putting people in this predicament,' Arrington said. 'I just think people's hands are tied until this guy gets around to doing what he's going to do.'

Tim Graham, of ESPN.com, reports the Buffalo Bills will likely open training camp Saturday, July 25, without first-round draft picks DL Aaron Maybin and OG Eric Wood, and second-round draft picks CB Jairus Byrd and OG Andy Levitre because all four rookies remain unsigned.

Mark Gaughan, of The Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills first-round draft choice DE Aaron Maybin is not expected to report when training camp start because he has not reached a contract agreement with the team. The main reason for the possible holdout is that the team is starting camp a week earlier than in recent years.

Allen Wilson, of The Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell would like to use DE Aaron Maybin in a hybrid role as a pass rushing defensive end as well as an outside linebacker like Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs is used. 'My gut says put him on the edge and let him go, but his athletic ability says you can do a whole lot more,' Fewell said. 'I'm interested in how much I can do with him. How much I can do will depend on how much he can learn, how much he can retain and how much he can execute without having a lot of mental mistakes.'
