SUMMARY

Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews is still playing under his rookie contract, and he has clearly outplayed the deal. General manager Ted Thompson is likely to work to give Matthews a lucrative extension. The current deal for Matthews runs through 2013.

The Green Bay Packers defense is hoping to create turnovers in order to get the ball back to the offense in their Divisional Round playoff matchup against the New York Giants. The Packers led the league in interceptions this season with 31. 'The most important thing we can do is ... create turnovers and give the ball back to our offense,' LB Clay Matthews said.

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews will line up up at outside linebacker in the Packers' 3-4 alignment. His position will be similar to the stand-up 'elephant' defensive end he played in the University of Southern California's 4-3 defense last year. 'I was able to rush the passer a little more, drop into coverage, just provide a little versatility to the game,' Matthews said. 'Now that I'm at a true 3-4 system, I can use the skills I learned at SC and continue to develop them.'
