Pittsburgh Steelers DL Evander Hood is expected to see more playing time this year, according to assistant head coach John Mitchell, because he has a better understanding of the defense and his mechanics should allow him to stay on the field longer, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's John Harris. 'I'm really excited about Ziggy. The transition he's made from his first year to his second year has been tremendous,' Mitchell said. 'He's using his hands better. Last year, Ziggy let people into his body. Right now, he's playing with better pad level, he's using his hands better and he's staying on his feet.' The projected increase in playing time likely will allow DLs Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel to remain fresher in the fourth quarter.
Teresa Varley, of Steelers.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers DE Evander Hood said the experience he received playing as a rookie this season hopefully will help him improve next season. 'Having the experience under my belt and stepping on the field first hand were important. Next year will hopefully be a lot better and I will come out stronger and play a whole lot better,' Hood said.
