Summers spent his second season in the league on the Steelers practice squad. He didn't play a game and has two NFL games under his belt in two seasons. The Chargers signed Summers after the season. He'll compete for a roster spot with his new team. Summers has some potential as a short-yardage specialist. He is a small back, but packs a punch at 240 pounds. He does a good job of hitting the hole in a hurry, which he needs to do at his size. Summers lacks breakaway speed, though, and has just so-so hands.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Summers doesn't seem likely to breakthrough this season, but he has some potential if the goal-line carries start falling his way. But until that happens, stay away. He isn't worth a roster spot just yet.

The San Diego Chargers will 'probably' carry four active running backs for their remaining games, according to head coach Norv Turner. RBs Ryan Mathews (calf) and Mike Tolbert (concussion) are expected back for the team's next game in Week 7. RB Jacob Hester is expected to be the third back, and the team will sign FB Frank Summers or RB Curtis Brinkley from the practice squad. RB Jordan Todman won't necessarily be the fourth running back; the team likes him but sees him as a contributor in the future.
