Summary

Quarterback Rank: #92
Overall: #539

Smith didn't get in a game his second season in the league, serving as the No. 3 quarterback in Tennessee, a role he should continue to serve this season. Smith was forced into action during his rookie season. He played two games and struggled in those games. He was picked off four times and failed to score a touchdown. He completed 50 percent of his passes for 200 yards. Smith still has plenty of work to do to be a competent NFL quarterback, but he has some ability. Smith has good size for the position and a plus arm. He needs to improve his accuracy and learn to read defenses much better if he ever hopes to be an NFL starter.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Smith is a reach for fantasy teams. He is way down on the depth chart right now. He seems a long shot to ever make a big impact in the NFL.

Notes

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Wednesday, July 13, that the team wants to add a veteran quarterback who can win now. 'We're not looking for a guy that's not capable of starting and winning games for us. We need someone that can come in here and win, and then have a nice competition between him and (QBs Jake Locker and Rusty Smith),' Munchak said.

Fantasy Impact: Smith didn't show much when given the chance last season, but unless the Titans bring in some more talent at quarterback, he could get a chance to start.

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said QB Rusty Smith may not have the ability to be a starter in the NFL but he can certainly become a very good backup quarterback. 'He's still got all the tools. I think he's a young man that has a chance to play in the league for a number of years. He might not be a starter, but he could be a pretty darn good backup for a while. He's got all the things you look for: the strong arm, the good size and he's got a good touch, a quick release,' Reinfeldt said.
