Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said he wants to become a team captain at some point but understands that his teammates will have to vote him as one. 'Team captain is solely based off of your peers,' Newton said. 'I'm going about it each and every day, trying to do my part to prove not only to my team, but first myself, that's a big responsibility on the field and off the field.' WR Steve Smith and OT Jordan Gross are currently the team's offensive captains.
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said he lost 12 pounds in the offseason, bringing him down from 255 pounds to 243. 'It was just a personal goal that I set for myself. I'm not going to go into what it really meant because looking at my body from afar you really couldn't tell,' Newton said. 'Being that I lost the weight, nobody really could tell, either.'
Fantasy Impact: This is a positive as he could be a little quicker this year.

Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert said he believes the offense under offensive coordinator Mike Shula will be similar to the one the team used when Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski was the coordinator. 'You never know what (a coach) has planned,' Tolbert said. 'But at the same time, I think the basic scheme of things probably won't change much.' Tolbert thinks Shula's hiring will be good for QB Cam Newton because he will not have to learn a new offense.
