Summary

Quarterback Rank: #31
Overall: #208

Gabbert started about every game of his rookie season. He played 15 games, getting some work in Week 2 and keeping the starter's job the rest of the year. Gabbert certainly had his struggles, though. He completed just 51 percent of his passes and threw for just more than 2,000 yards. He topped 200 yards just two times all season. He had 12 touchdowns to 11 interceptions for the year. He showed some flashes but also showed he has a long ways to go to be a successful NFL quarterback. He is slow to make his reads and locks onto receivers at times. Gabbert also tends to hold onto the ball too long and throw off his back foot. Gabbert has all the tools to be a top quarterback, though. He has a great arm, moves around the pocket well and has the size to succeed in this league. He'll be the starter in 2012. New head coach Mike Mularkey is a quarterback guru so he should help the development of Gabbert. The Jags will be a run-first team but Gabbert will get his chances to throw the ball, especially if he starts to play with confidence.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Gabbert is a reach for fantasy teams. He has to be better than last year (Mularkey will help), but that isn't saying much. He might be worth a late-round grab as a low-end No. 2 but he isn't likely to be a huge help for fantasy teams. He could throw for 3,000 yards and around 20 touchdowns in this offense.

Notes

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said QB Blaine Gabbert is the team's starting quarterback and there will not be any competition for the job during training camp.
Fantasy Impact: He could be on a shorter leash this year, though, as he will need to show progress is being made. Gabbert really struggled his rookie season.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert said throwing to elite receivers is easy because of their talent level, which is one of the reasons he is excited the team selected rookie WR Justin Blackmon in the first round. Gabbert said he and Blackmon are the same age and went through the same situation, so it will be easy for them to relate to each other. He added Blackmon's transition to the NFL will be helped by the likes of veteran WRs Mike Thomas, Laurent Robinson and Lee Evans.
Fantasy Impact: Gabbert had a lot more quality options at receiver. Now he needs to make some big strides at quarterback. The pieces are there.
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert said he played nearly the entire 2011 season with an undisclosed toe injury.
Fantasy Impact: This could explain some of his erratic play.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Tuesday, March 27, that he is confident in QB Blaine Gabbert, and his ability to grasp the playbook. 'The things he's been doing, we'd like to see it more consistently the way we want to do it. There are flashes there when he has done that. The throws, the decisions and all of that, they are there,' Mularkey said. 'It absolutely is there on tape what he's capable of doing.'

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Saturday, Feb. 11, that QB Blaine Gabbert reminds him of Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan, the quarterback he coached in Atlanta. 'With Matt, it was never good enough. Even when it was good, it wasn't good enough,' Mularkey said. 'I think (Gabbert) wants to be good. It's important to him.'
Fantasy Impact: He needs to get much better but at least he has a good quarterback guru to work with this season.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew said he believes the adversity QB Blaine Gabbert faced this season will help him moving forward. 'He fought through that - no complaining. We didn't protect him; we put him out there and let him learn on the fly. I think because of that, that adversity, he will be all right,' Jones-Drew said.

New Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach Greg Olson believes QB Blaine Gabbert can improve because of his strong work ethic. 'If he is the worker and self-motivated player everyone in this building says he is, then he has a chance to get better. That's all you can ask for right now,' Olson said.
Fantasy Impact: Having Olsen around will help Gabbert as well. He is a solid quarterback guru.
