Summary

Tight End Rank: #39
Overall: #254

Ballard emerged as the surprise starter in New York, especially if you consider he was undrafted. Ballard played well in a starting role, though. He topped 600 yards and caught 38 passes. He had six games with 50-plus yards. Ballard did drop a few passes and isn't a great blocker just yet but showed a lot his rookie season. But he has some competition for playing time this year. Martellus Bennett will be Ballard's competition for the starting spot in New York. Ballard doesn't have great speed but runs pretty good routes and makes plays in the passing game. He also is a willing blocker that should improve in that area over time.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Ballard might get a few less looks with Bennett around but we wouldn't count on him losing the starter's job. Bennett has underachieved throughout his career. Consider Ballard a low-end No. 2. He has the potential to finish with similar numbers to last season in a very good Giants passing game.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants TE Jake Ballard (knee) had medication injected into his knee Thursday, Jan. 19, and is questionable for the NFC Championship Game this weekend. Ballard did not practice Friday, Jan. 20. However, he expects to play against the San Francisco 49ers. 'I'm not concerned,' Ballard said. 'I saw a doctor for a little bit last night and performed a procedure and I will be ready to go. They pulled me out to rest me for today.' Ballard said his knee won't heal until the offseason and it's easy to re-aggravate an injury such as the one he's dealing with.
