Summary

Kicker Rank: #25
Overall: #450

Hanson continues to chug along even at age 42. He scored 126 points last season and made 82.8 percent of his field goals. Hanson doesn't seem to be slowing down much. He made 5-of-7 field goals from 50-plus yards, which was the second highest total of his career in that range. His leg remains strong as he keeps himself in good shape. The Lions aren't going to hand him the starter's job at his age but it is his to lose. And Hanson should get plenty of chances in a great Lions offense. He has 11, 100-point seasons for his career. Hanson remains fairly accurate, kicking in a dome, and still has strong leg.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Hanson has been a steady fantasy option for years. As long as he is starting for the Lions, he is a legit fantasy kicker. He can score around 130 points in this offense. Don't overlook him come draft day because of his age. He has high upside.

Notes

Detroit Lions PK Jason Hanson said he expects the team to add a kicker to compete with him during training camp.
Fantasy Impact: Hanson is getting up there in age so he isn't guaranteed anything going forward. He'll need to prove he can still kick in this league at a high level to keep the job.

Detroit Lions PKs Jason Hanson and Dave Rayner were each perfect in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 12, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hanson converted his only field goal from 37 yards out, and he added three extra points. Rayner nailed a 44-yarder, and he tacked on one extra point.
Fantasy Impact: Consider it a dead heat for now.

Detroit Lions PK Jason Hanson (knee) is battling a slew of recent injuries, and, for the first time in his career, another player as he competes in training camp with PK Dave Rayner, who is 13 years younger than the 41-year-old Hanson. 'We have a lot of confidence in Jason,' head coach Jim Schwartz said. 'If we have a pressure kick, I'd trust Jason to do it. It's just been a matter of health. He's gotten a little bit older, and the last two training camps he's been hurt. But as far as making the kicks and things like that, I have no problem.'
Fantasy Impact: It is no slam dunk Hanson will be the starting kicker this season in Detroit. In fact, we think Rayner probably has the slight advantage here.
