Volek played two games last season but didn't attempt a pass as the Chargers top backup. Volek has played little since joining the Chargers in 2006. Volek has attempted just 44 passes during his time with the Chargers. He is a valuable backup, though, at age 36. Volek has played well when given the chance, throwing 27 touchdown passes compared to 15 interceptions. Volek has a plus arm with pretty good accuracy and the brains to succeed. He can have some success starting in the NFL. He isn't afraid to push the ball downfield and is accurate on throws underneath.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Volek posted some big games with the Titans back in the day, but hasn't gotten many chances lately. If he gets some work, Volek might be worth adding. But his recent history shows the chances of him getting much work this season is very slim.

The San Diego Chargers want to re-sign unrestricted free-agent QB Billy Volek. The Chargers, however, do not know yet if Volek wants to return as the backup to QB Philip Rivers again this season. The team plans to make an offer to Volek, possibly in the three-year, $9 million range they did after the 2007 season. If Volek is looking for a chance to start somewhere, the Chargers may move on.
