BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Bills receiver Stevie Johnson is scheduled to have what his agent described as ``very minor'' surgery to repair a groin injury that nagged the player for most of last season. C.J. Laboy confirmed in an email Monday that the surgery is scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Johnson announced the news himself on his Twitter account, noting he wants to be 100 percent healthy heading into the season. Upon arriving in Philadelphia on Sunday evening, Johnson then proceeded to post photos of his search to find the city's best cheesesteak. Laboy said the procedure was planned. Though he added Johnson is expected to be fully recovered within weeks, the Bills aren't expected to rush the player's rehab. That makes it uncertain whether Johnson will be cleared to participate for the start of a series of voluntary minicamps, which open May 29. With 1,004 yards receiving last season, Johnson became the first Bills player to break the 1,000-yard mark in consecutive seasons. He avoided becoming a free agent in March, when he signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract extension. In other news, the Bills announced Richmond quarterback Aaron Corp was among 10 undrafted rookie free agents to agree to contracts with the team. Listed at 6-foot-4, and 215 pounds, Corp began his college career at Southern California before a broken leg cost him the starting job in a competition with Matt Barkley. Upon transferring to Richmond, Corp was limited to playing just three games in 2010 because of injury. Last year, he completed 247 passes for 2,682 yards and 17 touchdowns. Though his draft stock dropped as a result of injuries, he's considered an accurate passer and a capable running threat. Corp will compete for the No. 3 job in Buffalo behind returning starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and veteran backup Tyler Thigpen. Rounding out the list of undrafted additions are defensive backs Cris Hill (Virginia Tech), Delano Howell (Stanford), Nick Sukay (Penn State) and Ian Wild (Mercyhurst); offensive linemen Paul Madsen (Colorado State) and David Snow (Texas); Missouri State running back Chris Douglas, Texas A&M linebacker Garrick Williams and Florida State punter Shawn Powell. All 10 are expected to sign before the Bills host a three-day rookie minicamp that opens on May 11. Powell set school records in averaging 47 yards per punt last year, and finishing with a career average of 44.2 yards. He also becomes the third Seminoles player to join the Bills in the past two days after Buffalo selected linebacker Nigel Bradham with the 105th pick and offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders 144th in the NFL draft Saturday. Wild, who split time between safety and linebacker at Mercyhurst, earned ECAC co-defensive player of the year honors last season. Howell was a three-year starter at Stanford after making the switch from running back to strong safety following his freshman season. Douglas finished second at Missouri State with 559 yards rushing and three touchdowns in 11 games, including four starts last season. |
