HOUSTON (AP) - Houston has signed free agent Joe Mays after the linebacker was suspended and fined last season for a hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.
The Texans confirmed the signing on Tuesday.
Mays knocked Schaub's helmet off and the star QB lost a chunk of his left ear on the play during Houston's 31-25 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sept. 23. Mays was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game.
The Houston Chronicle and KRIV-TV of Houston were the first to report the signing. Mays told the television station that he and Schaub talked Monday and made peace. Schaub told the station the hit was ``water under the bridge.''
