ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Dwayne Harris returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown, DeMarco Murray ran 4 yards for a score before leaving with a sprained left knee and the Dallas Cowboys led the Washington Redskins 14-6 at halftime on Sunday night.
There were flags along the Redskins sideline after Harris' TD with 2:26 left in the first half. But the penalty was for someone not in uniform on the Redskins bench inadvertently bumping into an official during the play. The score stood and the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was enforced on the kickoff.
Another Washington penalty provided Harris with a second chance at a return. The Redskins were flagged for illegal motion, and Dallas accepted the penalty that forced them to kick again.
Murray had an 11-yard run on the first play of the game, and capped the Cowboys' long opening drive with his third touchdown of the season.
His last carry was a 6-yard run early in the second quarter. The team announced that Murray, who ran seven times for 29 yards, was being treated for the sprain and his return was questionable. He was standing on the sideline before halftime, wearing a baseball cap while conferring with team medical officials.
Washington linebacker Bryan Kehl also had a sprained left knee, and his return was also questionable. Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware was being examined for a right quad injury.
Kai Forbath kicked a 32-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. He also had a 20-yarder on Washington's first drive.
The TD by Murray ended a 10-play, 80-yard drive that took more than 6 minutes. It was the fifth time in six games this season that the Cowboys scored on their first possession.
Washington, coming off a bye week, responded by going 78 yards on 13 plays in more than 7 1/2 minutes before settling for Forbath's first field goal after Robert Griffin III came up short on a third-and-9 scramble.
When the teams played in the season finale last December at Washington, it was a winner-take-all game for the NFC East title. The Redskins won that one, part of a seven-game winning streak during which they beat the Cowboys twice.
Philadelphia won at Tampa Bay earlier Sunday to move to 3-3 in the NFC East. Dallas, which came in with a two-game losing streak, needed a win to match the Eagles for the division lead.
Washington lost its first three games this season, but won at Oakland before its bye week. Griffin, returning to Texas where he won a Heisman Trophy at Baylor, had said he felt rejuvenated after the break.
Griffin threw a 19-yard pass on his first snap and ran for 15 yards on the next play. He got stopped at the 2 on his third-down scramble. He was 3-of-4 passing for 45 yards on the opening drive, the lone incompletion a drop by running back Alfred Morris that likely would have been a touchdown.
RG3 was 10-of-18 passing for 134 yards at halftime and was also the Redskins' top rusher with 29 yards on four carries. That accounted for 163 of Washington's 166 yards.
Tony Romo was coming off the first 500-yard passing game in Cowboys history during a 51-48 loss at home last week to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
Romo was 12-of-17 passing for 96 yards at halftime.
