2014 DRAFT GUIDE
Seattle up 17-10 at halftime against Arizona

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Rashard Mendenhall scored on a 3-yard touchdown run one play after Arizona recovered a fumble on a sack of Russell Wilson, and the Cardinals trailed the Seahawks only 17-10 after being dominated most of the first half Thursday night.

Seattle dominated Arizona in the teams' last meeting in 2012 and picked up where it left off, with Wilson hitting Sidney Rice on a 31-yard touchdown pass and connecting with tight end Zach Miller on a diving 15-yard score in the back of the end zone in the second quarter.

Arizona finally gained some momentum after Wilson was stuffed on a fourth-and-1 near midfield by Calais Campbell, who was back after being carted off the field with a next injury against San Francisco last week. Jay Feely capped the ensuing drive with a 49-yard field goal.

Two plays later, Arizona's Matt Shaughnessy came around the left end and sacked Wilson, whose fumble was recovered by Campbell at Seattle's 3. Mendenhall scored through a huge hole off right tackle for the Cardinals' first touchdown against Seattle since Sept. 9, 2012.

Seattle put together a late drive in the half, but had to settle for Steven Hauschka's 51-yard field goal after consecutive false start and holding penalties.

A tight road game was nothing new for the Seahawks.

Seattle has won 11 straight games at home, but its games have been a little tougher on the road.

The Seahawks' lone loss was at Indianapolis and its two road wins were close, by five at Carolina and by a field goal in overtime at Houston.

Seattle came into Thursday night's game with seven losses in nine games at University of Phoenix Stadium, including 20-16 in Wilson's debut last September. The Seahawks became a much better team after that under their elusive-and-undersized quarterback, winning their final five games in 2012, including a 58-0 stomping of the Cardinals that helped facilitate the firing of Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Seattle went on to reach the playoffs and has been one of the NFL's best teams this season, winning four of its first five games.

The Seahawks had no trouble moving against Arizona's defense on their opening drive, starting with Wilson's 11-yard run on Seattle's first play from scrimmage. Seattle picked up more yards in big chunks, moving 83 yards in five plays for Wilson's touchdown pass to Rice.

Seattle moved quickly again on its next drive and Miller, who missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury, capping it by laying out in the back of the end zone to give the Seahawks a 14-0 lead.

Arizona picked up some nice wins in its first season under new coach Bruce Arians, reaching 3-2 with a solid win over Carolina at home on Oct. 6 before losing a mistake-filled, 23-20 game at San Francisco last week.

The Cardinals' defense, as it has most of the season, was solid against the defending Super Bowl champions, but the offense had four turnovers, including two fumbles in crucial situations.

Quarterback Carson Palmer also had two interceptions in the game and has nine the past four games.

He figured to extra excited for this game, going against his old college coach, Pete Carroll. Palmer won the Heisman Trophy playing for Carroll at USC and had not faced him since he became an NFL coach.

Palmer helped the Cardinals convert a couple of third downs on their opening drive, but was dropped for a 14-yard loss on a sack by Tony McDaniel.

On Arizona's next possession, Palmer had his 12th interception of the season when Brandon Browner broke up a pass intended for Larry Fitzgerald and Earl Thomas gathered the deflection before rolling out of bounds.

A sack of Palmer ended the Cardinals' next drive and he fumbled late in the half after being hit from behind on a third down play, leaving the Cardinals to settle for Feely's field goal.

Arizona altered the momentum in the closing minutes, though, with the fumble and touchdown by Mendenhall.
