SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - 49ers left tackle Joe Staley has sustained a right knee injury early in the game against St. Louis and won't return.

Staley was hurt at the 11:13 mark of the first quarter when hit from the side as he lunged to make a block down field, and he landed awkwardly while grabbing his knee. Staley stayed on the ground for several minutes before walking off the field on his own. Trainers and medical staff examined Staley on the bench then he headed to the locker room. The team says he's done for the day.

Losing Staley is a big blow as he was lined up opposite St. Louis sacks leader Robert Quinn.
