LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery says he has six candidates for the 14th pick in next week's draft.
He would be ''happy'' if two were available and ''ecstatic'' if three were still on the board. Emery spoke Thursday.
The Bears went 8-8 last season and missed the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years. The big reason for that? The defense.
Emery has been overhauling that group, bringing in Jared Allen and parting ways with Julius Peppers, and the makeover figures to continue in the draft.
The Bears still have holes to fill up front and in the secondary. Their options at No. 14 could include Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Alabama free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert, assuming Chicago keeps the pick.
