Fantasy Football Analysis Draft II - Round 16

Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:01am
By KFFL Staff

KFFL.com's Fantasy Football Analysis Draft (FAD) brings you behind the scenes on all 16 rounds of an actual fantasy football league draft. Each of our experts participating give you their thoughts and analysis as to why they chose the player they did. This is not a mock fantasy football draft, as this league will be played out during the course of the 2010 fantasy football season, so each participant is drafting to win this year.

This is our second Fantasy Analysis Draft of the summer. Click here to check out the first one and see how players are changing in value!

How do you feel about each selection? Would you have made the same move? We want to hear your thoughts in the comments area at the bottom of the page. If you disagree with a pick, let your thoughts be known.

1) David Akers, place kicker, Philadelphia Eagles
Team: Adam Zdroik, RotoExperts.com | Team Roster

Reason: There's no reason not to go with one of the most consistent kickers in the league. Akers will continue to get the job done even with a new quarterback leading the offense down the field.

2) Mason Crosby, place kicker, Green Bay Packers
Team: Paul Hickey, No-Offseason.com | Team Roster

Reason: What can I say? Kicker in the last round is always another fantasy commandment I follow, and Crosby is in a premier offense. I like it.

3) Stephen Gostkowski, place kicker, New England Patriots
Team: Cory J. Bonini, KFFL.com | Team Roster

Dallas Cowboys RB Tashard Choice
Will this Choice pay off?
Reason: I needed a place kicker. Does that fly? Gostkowski has been a top-six fantasy kicker the last few years and should benefit from what I feel will be a dominant Patriots' offense in 2010.

4) Rob Bironas, place kicker, Tennessee Titans
Team: Jeff Tefertiller, FootballGuys.com | Team Roster

Reason: After the first few kickers were off the board, I liked Bironas' schedule and late bye week. He will get ample scoring opportunities with Vince Young and Chris Johnson anchoring the Titans offense.

5) Matt Prater, place kicker, Denver Broncos
Team: Herbie Teope, Time Warner Cable | Team Roster

Reason: With apologies to readers, I refuse to waste 100-plus words analyzing a kicker. Just remember the last round is for this position.

6) Lawrence Tynes, place kicker, New York Giants
Team: Ryan Lester, Lester's Legends | Team Roster

Reason: I needed a kicker, and Tynes should be a productive one. The Giants have a good offense, but I can see them having drives stopped in field goal range, which should present plenty of opportunities for Tynes.

7) Tashard Choice, running back, Dallas Cowboys
Team: David Dorey, The Huddle | Team Roster

Reason: Because he is my everything or nothing, man. I'm going to fight until I can't fight no more. Gonna lay down, bleed a while. Then gonna get up, gonna fight again. Look, the final pick is probably going to get cut so I can start to cover DEF and PK bye weeks. I love Choice, and you should listen to his college speech on Youtube. If Marion Barber III or Felix Jones is injured I have a nice starter. If not, he's gone in Week 4.

8) Chicago Bears, defensive team/special teams
Team: Tony Holm, FantasySharks.com | Team Roster

Reason: Not a whole lot left to choose from. The Bears excel in returns and are well-rounded throughout, so I'll give them a chance as my starters for Week 1, but it's a short leash!

9) Shayne Graham, place kicker, Baltimore Ravens
Team: William Del Pilar, KFFL.com | Team Roster

Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart
KFAD's Mr. Irrelevant
Reason: I'll be honest, seeing Graham here in the final round made me smile. It's not that I'm a huge Graham fan as much as I'm a huge believer in the Ravens offense, and believe he'll see enough opportunities to be a top-five kicker this year. I fell into the belief that you take a kicker in the final two rounds some years back and this is a great example why.

10) Nick Folk, place kicker, New York Jets
Team: Jim Day, FantasyPros911.com | Team Roster

Reason: Folk struggled with the Dallas Cowboys last year, missing 10 field goals in the year after only missing two in '08 - hopefully last year was an aberration. On the Jets he should see more chances as the Jets offense will struggle to score at times. Similar to defenses, if my place kicker struggles there will be plenty of kickers available on the waiver wire, which is just another great reason to hold off on picking a kicker until the last round of your draft.

11) Neil Rackers, place kicker, Houston Texans
Team: Ian Riley, OpenSports.com | Team Roster

Reason: I know its dangerous drafting a kicker still in competition for a starting job, but with Kris Brown hitting just 65.6 percent of his field goal chances last year, Rackers should take the job. All you can really look for when taking a kicker is if he plays for a potent offense and avoids a tough outdoor schedule. He fits both criteria.

12) Matt Leinart, quarterback, Arizona Cardinals
Team: Matt Pitzer, USA Today | Team Roster

Reason: I don't need a third quarterback, but I also don't really need a second defense. Leinart winds up as the better value so we'll see if he ends up helping me. I think Leinart will perform better than expected and be a decent fantasy quarterback. It's hard to see him playing much behind Matt Schaub (Texans) and Carson Palmer (Bengals) but if there are injuries, he might help. Or perhaps he turns into trade bait.
