While owners try to figure out if Kevin Ogletree is this year's Laurent Robinson, we are here to fill you in on all the latest injury news from around the league. We'll unveil this column every Thursday for the rest of the season. As always, keep an eye on our player notes for the most up to date injury information. Also, we'll update any key injuries in our Weekend Update column, which is released on Saturday. Have a great Week 1! Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings. Peterson remains iffy to play for Week 1 as he recovers from ACL surgery. He is practicing some but isn't a full go just yet. Peterson also hasn't played in a game yet this season, which is another concern as he comes back from a major knee injury. With all that said, he is trending toward playing this week. If he doesn't have a setback, look for Peterson to be active and play a limited role in the game. The concern is his workload, which is likely to be limited if active. Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals. Scott is out for Week 1. He has been sidelined with a hand injury and isn't in football shape just yet. He could return in another week or two but is out for now. BenJarvus Green-Ellis could see an even bigger workload with Scott out. Ryan Mathews, RB, Chargers. Mathew s is hoping to return sooner than expected from his broken clavicle but still hasn't been cleared for contact, so the chances of him being active for Week 1 are slim. He could be back for Week 2, though, which is great news for owners counting on him missing the first four weeks of the season. Dennis Pitta, TE, Ravens. Pitta is another player battling a hand injury, trying to return from hand surgery. He is questionable to play. If he gets some more extensive practice time late in the week, look for Pitta to be active. Ed Dickson, TE, Ravens. Dickson is battling a shoulder injury but is practicing some. He is trending towards playing this week, though. As long as he can get a little more work in later in the week, look for Dickson to be active for Week 1. He plays a Monday night game, though, which is a bit of a concern for fantasy teams with Dickson a little iffy for the game. Isaac Redman, RB, Steelers. Redman has been slowed by an ankle injury much of the preseason but is practicing fully now and seems on track to play Week 1. It isn't certain if he'll start the game if active but should at least play a role in the game, splitting carries with Jonathan Dwyer. Expect Redman active unless he has a setback in the game. James Starks, RB, Packers. Starks has already been ruled out for Week 1 because of a turf toe injury. He has been slowed by the injury the last few weeks and could be out a few more weeks of action. Cedric Benson has grabbed the starter's job while Starks was out. Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers. Stewart has an ankle injury and is doing very little in practice but has a chance to play Week 1. The coaches are encouraged by his progress and aren't ruling him out. Keep an eye on the notes for the latest but it looks like Stewart will be active. He is likely to have a limited role in the game, though, as he rounds into form. Brandon Meriweather, S, Redskins. Meriweather hurt his knee in practice and will miss two to four weeks. He suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament. His loss will be felt in the secondary as Meriweather is a key contributor for the Redskins. Trent Richardson, RB, Browns. Richardson still isn't a sure thing to play but it certainly looks that way. He has been practicing and hasn't been experiencing any swelling in his surgically repaired knee. He looks likely to play but probably won't get a full workload in the game. Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks. Lynch has been slowed by back spasms the last few weeks and seemed to have a setback in practice this week. He is no sure thing to play Week 1. At this point, we would plan on other options at running back. Even if active, Lynch isn't likely to get a huge workload in the game after doing very little the last few weeks. Rookie Robert Turbin could get much of the work at running back for the Seahawks. Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers. It is a big surprise but Mendenhall practiced fully Wednesday. He is recovering from ACL surgery and nearing a return. He wasn't expected to be ready until about Week 6 but has made great progress. Mendenhall even has a chance to play this week. We still aren't counting on Mendenhall to be active this week but he could be back very soon. Stevie Johnson, WR, Bills. Johnson still isn't 100 percent after having groin surgery but is close. He is practicing on a limited basis and expected to be active for Week 1. Johnson should get his usual workload in the game. Justin Blackmon, WR, Jaguars. Blackmon suffered an ankle injury during practice Wednesday. It isn't known the extent of the injury but we should know more today or tomorrow. This is a concern as Blackmon was expected to play a big role in the game. Keep an eye on the notes for the latest and get other options ready for the game. Austin Collie, WR, Colts. Collie seems fully recovered from his latest concussion. He is fully participating in practice and the coaches believe he'll be just fine to play in the game. You have to worry about him suffering another concussion but Collie seems good to go for now. Steve Smith, WR, Panthers. Smith hasn't done much recently because of an infected foot but is back practicing in full and seems fully recovered from the infection. He should be just fine for Week 1. We aren't very concerned about the injury. Brandon Jacobs, RB, 49ers. Jacobs is trying to come back from a sprained knee but seems likely to miss the Week 1 game. He still isn't practicing and is rehabbing on the side. Even if he is somehow active for the game, Jacobs won't get many touches. Go with other options.
