It isn't often you get to sit down with a king. But we had that chance here at RealTime Fantasy Sports. Last season, Steve Dyszel was the "King of the Mountain," winning RealTime Fantasy Sport's game of skill. He knocked off thousands of teams to take home the cash prize of $25,000. It was quite the accomplishment for Dyszel. Below is an interview with Dyszel, giving some insight into his thoughts and feelings throughout the contest. But before we get to the interview, here is a quick overview of the game. If you aren't familiar, this is how "King of the Mountain" works. It is quite simple. Pick one NFL team to win each week. If the team you pick to win either loses or ties, you're out. If your team wins, you advance. And you can only pick a team to win once all season, including the playoffs. The last team standing wins. Entries are $9.95 for a team or two entries for only $14.95. Sign up at http://www.rtsports.com/kotm/PRPT. Signups end September 6th. Now onto the interview with the king, Steve Dyszel: RTS: What was your strategy for the game? Steve: No strategy at all. I actually got very lucky when it ended because I didn't have any top teams going into the playoffs if it would have gotten that far. RTS: Did you have a set plan going into the season? Steve: No, I just wanted to get far enough to brag about. RTS: Do you have any advice for people interested in the game? Steve: You have to play the game to win. Anything could happen. You can't go wrong for $14.95 for two entries. If you keep winning, it really gets intense. RTS: Had you participated in any game like this before? If so, did you ever win or come close? Steve: I have been in a few every year for quite a few years. The closest I came was last year. Along with winning King of the Mountain, I ended up splitting the prize with someone after the 16th week. Winning two last man standing contests in one year. Can't beat that! RTS: At what point of the season did you think you had a real chance to win? Steve: I never thought I did. Like I said, not having many top playoff teams going into the 15th week. The nerves were getting bad. I thought a little about having a good chance after the Packers game on Thursday against the Vikings (9-7). When the Pack had a chance to score on that pass to Bubba Franks and he fumbles. I almost kicked the TV screen in. Then they kick the last minute field goal. Gotta love it! RTS: Were there any games during the season that seemed to be a turning point for your win? Steve: I really can't remember. I would have to go with the Packers game again. I didn't know anyone else's teams because it was the Thursday game and all the others weren't posted yet! RTS: What was your reaction after finding out you won? Steve: I was at my brother in law's house after church and when I looked up at the Arizona score, I started yelling and screaming with both arms up in the air. RTS: How did you spend the money? Steve: I took my family (my wife and two daughters) to Disney. I bought a LCD HD television and laptop. I paid off some bills and credit cards. I treated my family and friends to dinner and drinks. I still have a couple other things to get that I put some money aside for. RTS: Will you play King of the Mountain again? Steve: Of course. I am telling all my friends to get in also. Can't wait! RTS: Anything else you want to add? Steve: The most favorite thing I like telling everyone is when they ask how much it was to get in. $9.95 for one entry and 14.95 for two. I was watching the scores on the web on Christmas Eve and when everyone started losing, I was really getting nervous. When Houston ended up beating Indy, I was really getting pumped. I only got to watch half of the Arizona game before I had to go to church and they were winning 20-6. I told my Family to hope for an Arizona win, but I never told them what I would win. When I saw the score and I knew I won, I highlighted the Grand Prize $25,000 and showed my wife and my oldest daughter and that's when I started yelling with my arms raised in the air. That was the best Christmas present so far. If you have any questions or comments, please email Jeff Paur at jeff@rtsports.com |
